If I could remember everyone’s names from start to finish of our 24 hour stay I would certainly give thanks to them all. Every single staff member we came across was beyond kind and helpful. My daughter and son had amazing experiences and they actually have BRAGGED about surgery to their little 4 and 2 year old friends. You guys made everything so easy. I was beyond impressed with everyone however I’d like to give one specific shout out to Megan a PICU RN that was spending her time in the Rehab unit. She was our first nurse to attend to our recovery room with my son for his 24 hour stay. My son loved her and she was GREAT with him. Made sure she got to know him, showered him with love, and constantly was his cheerleader. Hoping she receives some sort of recognition or more for her excellent patient care.
I moved from Florida to have a surgery done at Gillette for my daughter with CP. She had a surgery about five years ago and the aftercare has been wonderful! Her surgeon Dr. Georgiotis did a beautiful job. He explained everything in detail. He has great bedside manner, and has treated us very well over the years. We also enjoyed our stay there which included a one week stay after the surgery, and another 4 to 5 weeks stay for her inpatient.
Gillette children’s really brings a whole twin cities community together. The reason, why is they make sure that kids are kids before they are adults. Gillette children’s has really good staff that help kids with their certain diagnosis.nnThey help make sure their bones are working and they help them actually achieve their goals that affect their future. They are a amazing group of people who make sure kids are not worried at the hospital or doctors and they help them. Make sure that they feel like home there.nnThey do have big rooms to support kids and or people in a wheelchair. Lots of the and Gillette are very spacious due to being wheelchair accessible. Gillette children’s is not just a hospital. It is a place to come together.nnGillette children’s has summer activities at Gillette and their YouTube channel. Never actually stayed there for a hospital visit, but I went there for appointments. Met new friend there.nnAt Gillette, they have everything you need for your child to help them grow. It is a big space. I have never had a negative experience there at Gillette.nnThey do have a playground for their activities or if someone is staying there for a hospital visit. The playground is wheelchair accessible and very inclusive.nnI came to Gillette at an older youth age. Just came there for an appointment because my regular hospital didn’t have the certain thing.nnGillette is a very good choice if you need any physical help or any mental help Gillette again isn’t just a hospital. It is a community remember that! Consider Gillette!!!!
Experience was horrible 0/10 , one time I went with a 7 inch gash in my leg , nearly to the bone, and the nuts made me walk to my room I fell furthering my injuries. My leg had to get amputee because of the nurses mistakes and they didn’t get in trouble now I only have one leg.
Gillette Children's Hospital came so highly recommended I work through the logistics of getting my son from Texas to Minnesota to have their team perform the corrective surgeries he need on his legs. Everything up till the time we went home from the third trip was awesome. Everyone was so helpful and made every trip to their facility as painless as possible.nnWithin a week after the casts were removal their rehab team had my son up walking with straight legs. After getting home he continued to improve to the point he could stand without hold onto any thing for 9 minutes. As soon as he was able, we arranged for Physical Therapy. This is where the issues started. Had I known about this problem, I would have done things differently.nnI asked local therapist if they would be able to help me son after explaining the surgeries that he had been through. Every therapist I asked said that they would be able help me son. This was far from the truth. The Therapist at Gillette understood the requirements that are need to continue the development and rehab for a patient that had the surgeries that my son had. They even put together a custom booklet of what was exercises were required to continue rehab. but offer no form of continued feedback of progress.nnI feel the breakdown occurred after we left the hospital for the last time. If there had been a long term support team that would contact us once every couple of weeks at first, then tapper off to once a month for the first year, would have ensured that all the work that went into my son to fix his legs would not go to waste.nnI did try to contact Gillette and explain the issues we were having. The PR lady that I was directed to was sweet but basically useless and did nothing to help with the fact that the benefits of the surgery were lost because of this lack of follow through. I never hear back from her.nnThe reason I am writing this rating is to hopefully aid people coming from out of state or country to be aware of this issue and to push Gillette to provide continued support after the surgery is completed and the patient goes home.nnIt hurts to think about how much effort was put into getting the surgery to happen and in the end there being no positive results from that effort. My sons legs are as crooked or more now then they were before the surgery. If you live to where to can continue the support of the Gillette rehab team after the surgery, this is the best place in the US to have corrective surgery for crooked Cerebral Palsy legs!nnI hope Gillette will consider adding long term remote rehab support to aid people who can not come back to the Gillette team for continued support.
