George Street United Church is one of St. John's' oldest downtown churches. Celebrating 140 years of service in 2013!
George Street United worships on Sundays at 11am.
After each service there is a time of fellowship where everyone is welcome to enjoy some tea, coffee and goodies. And of course a chance to meet new friends and chat with old ones.
There are several ongoing programs/groups, for various ages and interests, including:
> Senior, Men's, Women's and Youth Choirs.
> Sunday School that is provided to children of all ages during the Sunday Worship Service. A nursery is available for young children as well.
> The Jimmy Pratt Memorial Outreach Centre and Programs Committee helps support
Monday's Husky-sponsored Breakfast; Wednesday's Seniors' Inclusion Program; and Friday's Soup Kitchen.
> United Church Women (UCW), who provide events throughout the year and support the church through various means.
> The Men's Service Club is best known for their Annual Flipper and Roast Beef Dinners, along with other church-related events.
> The Book Club meets on a regular basis to discuss books that cover a variety of topics and create healthy discussions among the group.
> Bridges to Hope is a local food bank that George Street United supports throughout the year. We rely on the generous donations of non-perishable food items from the members of the congregation to help feed less fortunate residents. Food comes pouring in at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but donations are needed each week to prevent the pantry from going bare.
> George Street United also makes its space available to other groups throughout the week, including performing arts, childcare and other religious groups.
