The Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site is 150 acres of natural beauty dedicated to the legacy of Hoosier author, photographer and conservationist Gene Stratton-Porter. She lived here from 1914 until her death in 1924 and was inspired by the nature near Sylvan Lake. Enjoy the tranquil grounds, 2.5 miles of walking trails, woods and lake daily from dawn until dusk. Cabin tours are available on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The last tour of the day starts at 4 p.m. The Gift Shop is closed on Monday, open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.
Our gift shop features many of Gene Stratton-Porter's novels and nature studies as well as biographies and field guides. We also have a wide selection of locally made products including Keeper of the Bees honey and Annie Oakley's Wisteria perfume. Phone sales are available with shipping upon request.
