This place is truly an experience. If you like quirky small-town dives, this is your Holy Grail. Strange furnishings and clientele. The beer is cheap and the atmosphere quiet enough for casual conversation. This place isn't somewhere you'd take your mother but I'll definitely return when I want to drink and talk casually with friends without shouting over the typical bar din.
I questioned if we were in the right place to the group I was with when we entered. The energy of the place felt very sad, they could get away with the old carpets and sticky menus if they're were people in the place. They only serve pizza and select salads. I've heard they're claim to fame if for 'combat juice' which I've been told is just jungle juice. I will say, the staff are extremely friendly and helped to arrange a table large enough for the group.
It's not the nicest bar, or does it have the best selection, but as a student I've been going here for 6 years and it's a place I'll really miss when I eventually leave the city. Sipping a combat juice and talking with friends is a great way to spend a weekend night. There's always music playing and even after a 7 month hiatus, the owners still recognized us and came over to say hi when we walked in.
Awful experience... Went in for some late night food, got the nachos. They barely had any cheese on them, the chips were stale, and there was about 4 jalapenos and 4 slices of tomato... Lovely server, but when she asked how everything was and we told her we weren't too pleased with our nachos and asked if there was anything she could do.. she asked her boss who told her there was nothing they could do as we had already paid.. even though we were specifically asked to pay before we got anything. Such a weird experience. We ended up going across the road to McDonald's and the service and food was way better. Super disappointing experience and will not be back...
Enjoyable for the nostalgia of having combat juice from days past. However, highly recommend going later in the day. We were the only people there, and felt like the older, male, server was a tad creepy. He kind of looked over us while we tried to enjoy our combat juice.
This is a great place for cheap beer and pizza. It's not pretty, it's not fancy, and the washroom has seen better decades. It's easy to feel at ease there: some of us were in shorts and t-shirts, others in suits.
I had an excellent experience here. I don't really ask for much when I go to bars and I had no problems with service. The prices are fairly cheap and I really like the kinda run-down small town bar atmosphere of the place. Fun place to go and chill with friends or celebrate over a beer. Enjoyed by university students.
Pretty noisy inside, It might be quieter during the day. So we went outside, sat at a picnic table and watched the people & the vehicles go by. Only had Corona's so can not comment on the food.
Pros: -Well its a dive bar so its a nice place to hang out with friends. Medocrities: -The beer and pizza is okay. -The Combat juice is seriously overrated. Cons: The biggest problem experianced when visiting this place was the manager and the staff. -The staff seemed to be confused as to who ordered what because they brought the wrong items to our table twice. -We as a group just hung out and talked, and ordered about $150 worth of beer and pizza. Anyhow, as we were paying up the manager told us that we were not welcome at the Garneau if future and didn't even explain why. I mean its not like we were being noisy or rowdy. Anyhow, if you want to hang out with friends, have okay pizza and beer and get banned by the a**shole manager for no reason whatsoever then the Garneau is just the place for you.
This place can hardly be anyone's favorite bar. It's always empty when I pass it by and so it was tonight when I actually went there for a birthday party. We were the only people there. It's relatively boring. Prices are cheap I guess, 22 for two glasses of wine and a beer. I assume it would be depressing drinking here alone.
