Fred Meyer

I’m a lifelong Portlander who’s shopped at Fred Meyer since the 1970’s, and I have to say that this is the worst Fred Meyer store in the entire area that I’ve shopped at. Where do I start? It begins with horrible management that treats their employees like garbage, which of course affects how customers are treated, which is with the same contempt. The produce and meat are regularly not fresh, they sell dented cans of food throughout the store which can cause botulism and illness, they allow dogs and PETS of all kinds in the store including in their shopping carts where you put your food I’ve seen everything from a guy carrying a cat on his shoulder, to a pit bull dog in the self checkout line, which I complained to management about, and she told me there was nothing she could do about it!! The restrooms are ALWAYS filthy and disgusting, and there are regularly panhandlers inside the store entryway begging for money. Today, on my FINAL visit to this store, a cashier AND a manager wanted to argue with me about the legality of them scanning my drivers’ license in order to buy alcohol, which I did not allow them to do because I value my privacy, and I know the law and they have no right to all of my personal information, they only need my birthdate which is on the front of my license, but in asking them to simply look at my ID and enter my birthdate manually, it requires a “manager override” and holding up an entire line of customers! Today was the last straw! I’m through with this abomination of a so called grocery store, there are too many other places to shop where my patronage is appreciated. Fred Meyer WAS a beloved local Portland grocery store chain and created the “one stop shopping” model, but when the corporation called Kroger bought Freddy’s not Fred’s everything went to cr@p, which is what always happens with monopolies that don’t care about human beings, only profits. . I highly recommend you shop literally anywhere but here!!!

Come here in the morning everyday. Normally a great time to shop for the day while taking the wife to work. But for some reason it was not open at 6:10. When they open at 6.nNot good for business if you don’t let customers in to the store.

I’m writing this review because I’m a little bit disappointed. I made an order for my mom tonight. It was 22 items and all we got was 15. I called the store. It’s a little bit after nine. They said I should call back tomorrow but what bothers me is after speaking to the assistant over the phone she told me that she spoke to the manager, and the manager could not assist me with the missing item. I think that a manager should be well trained in every department to be able to assist in every way. I will be showing up as early as Friday morning unfortunately I’m out of town and I hope that my mother could get a refund or get all of her items that was missing. This is ridiculous. I have ordered online from Fred Meyer almost every two weeks and I never had so many missing items before.

You should NOT shop here. This place deserves to close. Unless they fire their management and replace them with non discriminatory staff you have no reason to stay open. Staff will be verbally abusive and condescending to customers that need accommodating. Fred Meyer is ableist and discriminating against patrons with disabilities. They've also broken federal law. Shame on this place absolutely will never shop at a Fred myers.

I’d give zero stars if it were an option. Male Management is incompetent and bullies those with disabilities, and states their policy requires mobility scooter/electric wheelchair users to park outside and use their store brand electric shopping carts. This is absolutely discrimination and goes against federal law Americans with Disabilities Act. They watched an ADA video during training and still choose to bully disabled shoppers. Let them go!!!!!
