I actually feel welcome going flying here and I always feel like I learn something. There's more to aviation than just perfecting manuevers. I think the more relaxed attitude at Flight 101 allows students to get a better understanding of every aspect of aviation, especially those who want to pursue a career in it. No, the cessna's may not be in perfect condition; they may not be hangared or have the nicest, newest, fancy avionics, but by using them, you see what its like to fly in a basic form and you become well rounded without spending a ton of cash. I'd reccomend learning to fly here.

Went up with Joe for a discovery flight before I head off to flight school. Great first flight and can't wait for many more.

Had an awesome first flight with JP. He was very knowledgeable and it was everything I hoped for and more. My next step is getting my license. Cannot recommend Flight 101 enough.

Please read this if you are going to get your private pilots license. For flight schools, there are part 61 schools and part 141 schools. A part 61 flight school requires 40 hours before you can take your check ride (the test and flight you take to obtain you license). A 141 school requires 35 hours to obtain it. The big difference between a part 61 and a part 141 is that part 61, they drain your money and make you fly a lot. I have completed 22 hours at Flight 101 and I am never returning there again. At flight 101, they have a lot of college grads come in and flight instruct with them and they are just using you to get commercial hours. This is what everyone does, go to college and get your license and certified flight instructor badge (cfi) and go flight train people until you have a thousand hours. My flight instructor left flight 101 after he got a thousand hours and he didn't tell anyone where I stand in my training. I was basically set back to the beginning because I would have to train with another instructor from the start because he/she doesn't know my skills or what I'm working on. This is the bad part because now I basically lost a lot of money. In a part 141 school, if for some reason you were to fly with a different instructor, those two instructors would have a private meeting to talk about where you are in your lessons. Basically a part 61 school, it is based on the instructors opinion of how good you are at flying. In a part 141, it is completely structured and you know what you are going to do on your next flight where a part 61 school, you will not know what you are working on until you are in the air. Flight 101 is a part 61 school which in my opinion is, they are extremely laid back and they just want you to fly. A part 141 school WANTS you to get your private pilots license as soon as possible. They will try everything they can to make sure you get your license. Flight 101 will always say, "hours are hours" which they are right, when you go in the air you are gaining hours but they are not effective to you becuase you learn minimal information each time. DCT aviation is another flight school at Pontiac airport that is just right around the corner. They are a part 141 school and a part 141 school is way cheaper. They are about 10 bucks more an hour at DCT but you get your license in a LOT less time. DCT actually has a building and they have simulators where Flight 101 is just a shack. I am continued my training at DCT because they are unbelievably better than flight 101. Please contact me if you have any questions because I hate to see people get scammed by flight 101 when there is a great school right around the corner. I even asked a flight instructor at flight 101 if there were any part 141 schools around here and he said no, which kind of tells you something. Please please please go to DCT right next to flight 101 and go in and ask for a meeting if you want to get your license. They are very kind people and they would love to talk to you. Good luck on getting your license!
