A rugged, backcountry alpine hiking area. Excellent for the weekend adventurer. Fang Mountain: Right away, there's a creek that must be waded through or crossed on a log serving as a bridge. Depending on the time of year, the water may be rather deep, so pack some sandals etc to cross in. The hike is quite steep, with some precarious footing after the lower mouth of Fang Cave, before you reach the alpine meadows. Also, be very wary of the opening above the cave complex that drops down into the cave. It's close to the trail, pretty obvious, but still dangerous. Be prepared with wildlife precautions and plenty of bug spray especially for the upper lakes and meadows area. Those warnings aside, this is a beautiful and rewarding hike with abundant scenic marvels as you ascend from the old growth cedar forest into the alpine. We spent the night in August with great weather. There's a commonly used camp area near the upper lake, but it will take several hours to hike up with a well stocked backpack.
