Reviews
As most of the other reviewers have already said, you deserve much better than the service offered here. The prices are higher than competing stores, the staff is generally clueless, and the owner is rude beyond belief, acting like talking to customers is completely beneath him and clearly only concerned with the bottom line. I can't imagine why anyone would want to give money to a business owned by someone who obviously treats his customers with such contempt, and I would have very low expectations for any kind of after-sale service if something went wrong. Do yourself a favor, and shop at any number of the other sporting goods stores in the neighborhood, which offer better selection, better prices and much, much better staff!
This is by far the worst outdoors store I've bought at. The staff not only lack knowledge and that's an understatement but they are also extremely rude. Their selection is really poor and they won't even warranty the products they sell. Seriously, I brought back a pair of shoes that I had used for a week and they refused to warranty them because I bought them on sale. I've worked at an outdoors store before and that is complete bullshit. I prefer buying at local stores but you are way better off going to MEC right across the street. Never going there again.
I always want to support the "little" guy and independent retailers where possible but I will never buy anything from Europe Bound again. I went into look at a Patagonia 3-in-1 jacket and just had the most appalling experience. The staff were all too busy playing around while unpacking merchandise to answer my questions. When they did give me some time the exchange was made pretty unpleasant by the staff attitude. Customers aren't made to feel welcome here by any stretch. I hope the owner reads these reviews and sorts out the levels of customer service. As anyone can see reading the other reviews, my experience was not a one-off. Avoid at all costs.
These guys have a pretty good selection of outdoor clothing. The layout is a bit confusing but when I went there were plenty of staff to ask for where things are located. I went there because MEC didn't have a good water proof jacket in my size and I was able to find one at a decent price here.
The customer service quality is very poor. I went on Saturday, February 28th to rent a pair of snowshoes. When I have requested a plastic bag to put the snowshoes in, the cashier refused simply because he was too busy with describing his trip to Antarctica, made on December 2014, to a third person. This led me to the decision of never returning back to Europe Bound store.
This store does not even deserve one star. I have shopped here way too often and each time feel shafted. The store is a mess with horrible lighting. But most importantly the staff, particularly the owners are rude. Arrogant and unhelpful. Suffice it to say that I will NEVER EVER step a foot in this store again and I urge you to do the same. As other reviewers have pointed out -- MEC is across the street and miles above in every way. Europe Bound deserves to go out of business based on their attitude alone.
Walked into the store, walked around for a few minutes looking at camping gear and then the owner told me to get outnot politely!! because the store wasn't open for another 8 minutes. I asked him why the store doors were open? He repeated himself and told me to leave. I told him where to go. Went to MEC and bought everything I needed. Just do what all stores do, open your doors when the store is open. Seems logical.
This is not the first time I've visited this store, but its certainly the last. The first time I was taken back by the overall rudeness of the staff and lack of energy or interest in helping customers. My second visit confirmed my initial takeaway as the rudeness lack of professionalism was on full display. I made the mistake of popping by to take some passport photos. Immediately I felt like I was bothering the staff member just by asking for help. That was followed by the laziest of efforts to take photos I've ever seen. Said photos would go on to be rejected by Passport Canada. I suppose I should have known as they didn't even use a tripod to steady the shot. The gentleman at least has a sense of humor, as he mentioned that "Ive been doing this for 30 years and nobody ever likes the photo" . I might suggest that the problem has much more to do with Europe Bound than passport photos in general. If you value respect and courtesy...take your dignity across the street and steer clear of this customer service disaster masquerading as a small business.
I have to agree with many of those who had bad experience. Most of the staff are uninterested in serving customers, let alone to give them advice. As a female backpacker, I was repeatedly snubbed. I was ignored. I had to approach staff and ask them about the things I wanted. The guy even didn't look at me and mumbled some answer. But I noticed that guys were treated with more respect, friendliness and interest! Shame on Europe Bound!!! Fortunately, there is MEC across the street.
This place wants so badly to be great, but half-assed service really kills it. The gear selection is actually very good, and a handful of staff are lovely. We came for xc ski rentals because MEC was booked up, and the entire experience was a mess, narrowly saved by one or two staff. When I first called to reserve them, they insisted we come in person to try stuff on, and assured us they had enough stock that we wouldn't miss out. Fair enough, but when we came in, it took 30 minutes to get any help, the guy on the register the brother of the owner? was rude, and they were almost out of skis and poles, forcing us to pick out equipment that was not quite right. Thankfully a couple of staff were able to dig around and find something that might work, marked it for us, and set it aside. We are noobs, anyway, so maybe we won't notice imperfect sizing. When we came to pick them up on the day of our reservation, however, they had misplaced the skis we set aside, so our equipment was even worse fit. What was the point of us coming in before our reservation, again? My wife was stuck with skis sized for someone several inches taller than she is, and one of my skis was broken, missing part of the binding. While we were still able to ski, the rental experience was awful, and no one at EB seemed to care about any of it. We did love skiing, though, so we walked across the street to MEC and booked skis for another weekend next month. It was done in 5 minutes by people who knew what they were doing and appeared to like doing it.
