Erratic Rock State Natural Site

Story

Erratic Rock State Natural Site is a state park in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, United States. Stumbled across this spot thanks to Geocaching. It was a great stop to stretch our legs on the way home from the coast. A bit steep but an enjoyable walk, there are ducks, geese, and sheep to see and blackberries and apples to pick along the way. Good views of the valley from the top!
A beautiful way to greet the morning sunrise. This lovely short trail is very well-maintained and easy for all skill levels. It’s paved all the way up to the top, and even has garbage cans and informational signage.
Loved the walk to this! Paved the whole way. Dog friendly. No restrooms but there are trash cans along the trail. Great easy walk with a steep hill at the end.
I have visited this location three times. One time I found a geo cache book tucked under the rock. Another time I found prayer flags up in a tree. The third time there was a beer can. A great place that is never crowded. Be ready for a short walk up a slightly steep hill.
Short fairly steep hike up a paved trail along a vineyard. View from the top was worth every bit of the climb! Picnic area: There is a picnic table at the top to rest or enjoy a view.
Interesting geological piece, but nothing extraordinary. Easy to find, access, and exit. Handicapped accessible; paved, but steep for 100 yards or so. 5-10 minute walk to the top. No facilities. Parking is roadside with room for 2-3 vehicles.
The hike to and from the rock is actually the best part of the experience. It’s actually a nicely maintained paved trail along a vineyard with scenic valley views. In late summer, there are so many tasty blackberries that you will likely get your fill. The rock itself is uneventful; it’s more the journey rather than the destination. While this trip is not worthy as a destination trip unless you’re a geologist, it is along the road between two great wineries: Yamhill Valley Vineyards and Youngberg Hill. Both of these are worthy destinations on their own.
Nice short hike paved anywhere from 5' to 6' on some areas. All up hill
Very short walk to the big rock. I would only visit if I were near by it's nothing to impressive to go out of the way for. It is very peaceful and has great views.
The story of the erratic Rock and how it got here is very interesting. Well there is not much to do here, it is nice to be able to experience a part of the Willamette Valley history, plus there are nice views up here of the surrounding farmlands.
