Good! First time visiting an Equinox location in Canada. And I had a good workout! Almost empty around 1pm on a Thursday
Whenever I come, I am greeted in the most welcoming way. Very pleasant workout atmosphere, a wide range of equipment, that is excellently maintained, and comprehensive amenities, as well as a professional service. A place where harmony is present, whether you want to work out by yourself or choose from a wide range of classes, offered during the entire day. Fantastic location in downtown Toronto that is easy to access and has a fantastic view. Spacious gym floor and changeroom with all amenities you could wish for, including sauna and steam room - both perfectly working, like everything there.
I only gave this place one star because it's clean. Now here's what's wrong with this gym. 1. Not enough equipment - they charge 250$ a month and I can never get any machine I want which means I can't do my workouts properly. Sometimes I have to wait 20min for a squat rack. If you want to workout here in the morning or evening forget it. 2. Octogon plates - these are terrible for anyone who is serious about lifting. No good for anything but plate loaded machines. 3. The music is super loud and I wear ear buds so that really tells you something. 4. It's closed most of Saturday and not open Sunday. 5. The personal training managers are super fake and only care about you if they get your money. 6. Only one platform 7. The trainers come and go so often it makes you wonder about working conditions.
Love going to Equinox. They ensure the gym and all equipment is cleaned regularly. It’s never crowded. The classes are great too. I love to use the steam room after a workout, and especially appreciate all the Kiehl products in the changing rooms so I don’t need to bring anything.
Save for the classes with great instructors, this club needs a lot of work. Staff is frequently rude, non responsive, and makes false promises. The facilities need desperate maintenance and upkeep and are ignored for months at a time. Cleanliness is frequently lacking. There is mould build up in the products in the showers and limescale build up in the water fountains. Equipment for classes is always at a shortage. Many times classes scheduled do not have instructors present. The soap dispensers, faucets and paper towel dispensers are not automated and the club has no plans of automating it. Overall disappointing.
You are everything when you’re first signing up, and you are NOTHING when you have to cancel it. Don’t expect to get any reply from them. This made me really concerned as why no one ever get back to me? Why the front desk staff only say “Have a nice day”to certain skin colors of people? You should be concerned as well if you’re planning to sign up! And please, if you are the staff in this club and reading my review, please don’t ask me to contact you via email because I don’t think I’ll receive any valuable replies.
I used to love this gym. The equipment was top notch, and the group fitness classes were always engaging and a great workout. However, the customer service is absolutely terrible. During covid when everything shut down, every other gym pivoted their business to support their members by offering virtual classes. While Equinox in the US launched an app with virtual classes for their members during this time, this was not available to the members in Canada until March 2021 - a full year since we went into lockdown. Equinox was not there for their members during such a difficult time when everyone should have been focused on looking after their well-being. For various reasons, I decided to cancel my membership in November 2020 and received email confirmation that this was done. However, Equinox charged me almost $400 once the gym reopened in July, and it was almost impossible to reach anyone to get the fees reversed. I had to follow up multiple times with different people, and the club never proactively reached out to me to resolve the issue. I eventually received a cheque in the mail after almost 2 months of constant chasing, which was almost a full year after I initially cancelled my membership. I even escalated this to the club’s GM and never heard back. The poor customer service from this gym absolutely does not justify the high cost of membership for this ‘premium gym’. I should also mention that all of the best group fitness instructors that used to teach at Equinox are now at Sweat and Tonic, which is actually deserving of being a premium gym with amazing customer service if you are looking for alternatives in downtown Toronto!
Best gym facility in Toronto. Big shoutout to Samantha R who works on the membership advisor team. Incredibly empathetic, confident and honest through the entire sign-up process. Gold Star.
As someone who lives in Downtown, it’s so inconsiderate to have this gym closed during weekend. Like, really? Do I have to drive half an hour to the other location in Yorkville which also closes at 5pm on weekends Weekdays they’re closing at 8. It’s definitely not worth of money if I am not getting fully use of it whenever I need it.
Beautiful gym with nice view of the financial district. The women's change room is very clean and the kiehl's products are a nice touch. Overall, a well designed and comfortable environment. Can get pretty busy right after work but otherwise it's not too crazy, weekends are pretty empty which is great. Good selection of classes but it would be better if there were more classes on the weekends. The staff is a bit unorganized, I’ve asked at least 8 different times to different staff and manager to automatically receive monthly invoice receipt and have yet to receive them.
