Durham District School Board

Unfortunately DDSB has taken on the new normal. What is the new normal in publicly funded education? No accountability, entitlement and a caustic environment where students are the last on the list of priorities and faculty, maintenance facilities right up to the head of education are more concerned with do as little as possible with an extremely bloated compensation package. Should ashamed of yourselves. No surprise that most of the reviews are 1 star. To give it some context I have spoken to a number of custodial staff in the Uxbridge area who are verbally abused on a daily basis from staff. It's sad that this type of behaviour is common place in education today. Be careful of school boards that hire full-time lawyers, it's not for the benefit of parents and students.

Zero accountability with our tax dollars. Messages aren't returned and they refuse to acknowledge bad policies. 1 week spent in my son's grade 6 "science" class talking about how to get more women into STEM - how about we live in a free country and EVERYONE can become whatever they want. Far left ideologies peddled to students. My son was told he's not a "real" Canadian because he's not First Nations. Drag Queens brought into my daughter's class like that isn't a highly sexualized topic. Despicable attitude to opposing views. And good luck getting any response from these clowns.

Absolutely awful experience with the DDSB. No respect for single fathers, when registering a child for high-school, basically accused me of stealing my own child because I didn't have a court order. My child has been registered at numerous schools in Durham over time, and never was it an issue. I believe that some schools are projecting personal staff feelings and personal ideologies, and that's a total conflict of interest.

Update: DDSB is still the worst school board. Now though just pushes them even lower. Queen Elizabeth the second died and DDSB didn't acknowledge her death until today 2022-09-19 even at that barely did it they said "People from other countries are in Britain for the Queen's funeral." That's it nothing else was said about her. They were supposed to have a moment of silence at 1 pm but they never did. They said that kids would still go to school even though it's a federal holiday because the kids would learn more about the queen in school. They never learned anything about the Queen. SOOO NOT IMPRESSED!! Original review: DDSB should pay more attention to students and their needs. The DDSB says that they don't tolerate bullying when they do. My niece goes to school at DDSB they were being bullied and the staff only said that my niece started it and that it was their parent's fault. Not impressed with this school board!

Amazing schools and I just think your kids should go to DDSB

Excellent leadership under the current director. I'm delighted to see the meaningful equity work that is happening at all levels. My daughters transitioned to a DDSB school from another board this year, and we have had nothing but positive experiences. Communication to families is always timely and consistent. Well done DDSB!

I feel they don't take care of the children in need. Instead the board allows the children with violent tendencies and anger issues to get away with it because there are "issues" in the home, or with that child. There have been numerous actions at West Lynde Public School that have been swept under the rug and the board continues to allow it without concern for the children involved. They claim they cannot speak about punishment. This board seriously needs an overhaul.

Not crazy about the hours of the high schools 10am to 4pm, students picked up after 9 am and some dropped off at 4:54pm. Most of the students do have jobs or did until the school board changed the high school hours not think that some students may have jobs or have to look after there younger siblings who get off at the regular public school hours.

There has been a program for years when grade 5 gets a gym membership covered by ddsb but because of covid those grade 5 students don't get to participate in this program? It doesn't seem fair, they should be able to use it the following year. It wasn't our fault that everything was on lock down.

DDSB is great. Many school boards don’t hand out Chrome Books to grade 7s. So be happy that DDSB does. During COVID-19 if there’s a delay, try to understand the demand and supply. It will take time. Of course available sites on the chrome books should be limited. It’s a learning tool, not your entertainment set. Teachers are lovely. For those that want the schools to shut their doors and move to virtual; not everyone feels the way you do. That is why you are given the option to keep your kids at home. Don’t ridicule the board that can remain open and don’t judge the parents that send their kids to school. You may do what you believe is right for your family. If you’re a kid who wants to learn from home, you need to advocate for yourself and not post a negative feedback about the entire board.
