Duck Egg County Forest has some of the most beautiful geographic features Wisconsin has to offer, and I don't say that lightly! The 3.5mi Duck Egg trail take you through several large valleys, right up to a scenic bluff, down into the lower valleys, and then back up again. It's pretty strenuous, and the trails are rocky, so I wouldn't recommend taking this trail unprepared water, good shoes, snacks or after rain. We had the entire forest to ourselves and it almost felt like surreal to have so much to take in for just two little hikers.
Very nice trail from upper parking area down some rocky switchbacks to the valley floor and the creek.
Great park with nice trails and a trout stream, but why no mountain biking? Would love to ride these trails.
Excellent hiking. Only downfall, the trails weren't posted that well.
I love how you can hear the Bad Axe following through this park. It is always quiet with very low foot traffic. Playground: No playgrounds besides nature Restrooms: Just trees Dog-friendliness: I believe it is legal here to let your dogs run off leash Picnic area: No formal pinic area, just trails and river
Beautiful trails and a great trout stream. So peaceful. The bridges are a great quiet place to take some nature pics.
My family loves coming here! Very nice trails!
This is a lovely forest with tons of uncrowded trails which wind thru the trees, past the river and up to a spectacular vista overlook. Over the river and thru the woods! There's an open prairie field atop the hill where you can stretch your legs or let your horses run free. Some of the hilly trails are filled with loose rocks but still well maintained. There are two entrances an upper and a lower. Both are horse friendly and have areas to picnic and ample parking but no pavement. The lookout point has a picnic area too. Epic view of a dam & multiple hillsides from up there. The trail is well maintained with wooden walkways at the multiple stream crossings. Huge variety of trees. Very active beaver population along the river as well. This is a great place to hike or ride horses! I would highly recommend it! I'm looking forward to revisiting when it's green and in the fall. It is no doubt breathtaking! Tons of space and trails to explore. Don't miss this hidden forest if you get the chance.
This is a beautiful place to walk. The river crosses the trail in many different spots and there are little wooden bridges to cross it. Horses are gonna love it here, as that is it's primary use. There are a lot of different wildflowers, trees, and species of birds, so there's never a shortage of photo opportunities. The bluffs and hills that frame the perimeter of the lower trail provide an excellent peaceful setting, especially by the small lakes and the gigantic dam. The upper trails have great scenic overlooks that rise hundreds of feet above the lower forest floor. It also has a few secluded picnic spots available that are very picturesque and relaxing.
Only explored a couple miles of trail but it is a nice area with lots of views. Beware of the road in/out as a small car had a great deal of difficulty getting unstuck when leaving. Probably not a road for front wheel drive cars when there is snow. AWD/4WD vehicles did not have issues. There is more than one option to park so check out some maps of the area. I went directly to where my GPS directed me.
