Started to see him a few months after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. We started with a treatment of prescription NSAIDs; which changed at first but eventually we found a correct mixture. When my condition started to get worse, Dr. Kapur then recommended that I start a "biologic response modifier", but it's costly; and there are serious side effects to those drugs. When I kept on asking for more information or alternative treatments, he had a representative for the drug company "sit in" on an appointment. When I finally agreed to treatment, I was put on the average amount for an injection and it increased over time. Durning the initial stages of the treatment, I constantly questioned if these drugs were having a positive impact on my body. The NSAIDs I was prescribed were having a terrible effect on my digestive system and my weight kept fluctuating causing increased amounts of pain. For at least a week after the injections movement, sleeping, and eating were all compromised. When I lost drug coverage I was told to seek out government assistance. I had many reservations about seeking assistance as the drugs and treatment were having no effect on the pain and increased amount of pain I was having. For roughly a year and half I was on NSAIDs and biologicals with little to no impact on my pain levels, but my "blood levels" all looked good; which eventually lead to the prescription of opiates. At 33 years being diagnosed with RA at 31 I was not looking to start a drug addiction. One of last drugs he prescribed me caused 30 pounds of weight gain, at which point I questioned how effective his treatment was. One type of treatment I looked into was unfortunately unknown to him and when I asked about it's aspects one reply was "The unknown dangers of inhaling this drug is terrible." When I replied with "Yeah but inhaling isn't the only way to consume it." No reply, just on to the next questions. I also questioned what my "blood levels" would be if I wasn't on the biologicals I was told that stopping treatment before I have full coverage for it was not advisable. Why would I want coverage for something I don't need? Why would I want to charge taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars for drugs that have no effect on me? My final appointment I questioned him whether is was a good idea for a rheumatoid arthritis patient to be prescribed a drug that causes weight gain, especially through the consumption of high sugar based foods. It's been a year now and through hard work, exercise, and healthy eating I have kept my "blood levels" in the healthy range. ALL WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. Over this year I have learned that roughly 8 km of walking EVERYDAY manages my inflammation levels, lots of green veggies helps with pain (no it doesn't stop the pain, helps it from starting) another type of green helps with immediate pain, and large portions of protein to help with potential muscle wasting. Unfortunately most forms of rheumatoid arthritis prescription drugs will have an adverse impact on the body, not to mention rheumatoid arthritis it's self destroying the body. So I figured finding a treatment that has the least damaging impacts was the best idea. When it came to my case dealing something like this, Dr. Kapur had no help to offer.

Amazing Dr. Gave me my first 'diagnosis'. Said 'just because we can't see anything doesn't mean you're not in pain'. After 5 years of hearing that I couldn't possibly have arthritis from Drs. it was wonderful to hear that I wasn't insane and the pain wasn't in my head. I wish I was still in Ottawa so he could be my Dr. He is kind, listens and is very knowledgeable about current studies and experiments. He's also holistic, understanding that arthritis isn't a stand-alone condition but that it is connected to the mind as well.
