Dr. Caulfield is an awesome surgeon and has excellent skills. He went above and beyond his duty as a professional in caring for me while I was his patient. I am forever grateful to him and his team at GBHC.
I stepped on a shard of glass that entered the lower outer side of my left heel. I asked the people around me for help to get it out, After 2 days I went to the emerg at GBHS 1800 - 8th St. E. The emerg doc tried to find the glass in the bottom of my foot, using a scalpel, she couldn't find it, leaving a hole you could slide your baby finger in. I feel she made an honest effort to find the glass. She then refers me to a general surgeon. Jon Caulfield. I go see John Caulfield. Mr. Caulfield, asks why I am there and where the glass is? He examines my foot - glides a finger across where I told him the glass went in and i jerk my foot away. He says to me " ya, there is something in there. We arrange for surgery 2 days later. I go into the hospital, go through the proceedings to where I am all ready for surgery. No Dr. Caulfield to be seen. They come get me tell me " we're taking you into surgery now". I figure Caulfield is in the operating room. Didn't see him. They then put me under. I have no idea if Caulfield was even in the hospital, let alone the operating room. In the recovery room, I see a nurse, then the anesthesia n walked by . I called to him and he ignores me. I called to him again and asked about pain meds. He keeps walking and blows me off, saying " You don't need any pain meds you will be alright, small cut. And this Jerk leaves the room so I can not talk to him anymore. Ya I said jerk - had he any compassion and courtesy, used a little time to listen and learn, Dr.s are not gods, though some act that way I would have told him about other health problems that this surgery would complicate. That being. I was born with degenerative bone disease. It is worse at waist level for me. Along with the degenerative BD, I also have arthritis since childhood. It is in every joint in my body, more pain from having to use crutches. To complicate things more I was also born with what is called Osteophytes, a calcium growth, like a ball on the end of a mace or as in my case this is what the Dr, told me, mine are shaped like a half moon or cats claw. Every time I move, every day, I cut through the flesh in my back. Sometimes this pain is so overwhelming when it hits, I scream in a crazy way and fall to the ground. Nothing I can do. With surgery on a foot I would have to be on crutches a few days to a week. Using crutches means that my spine would be opening and closing like an accordion. Not good for someone with spinal degeneration, childhood arthritis or with Osteophytes. So - still no Caulfield. I get sent home. Because of a new wound plus all the other pains I have, it took me 4 days before I could get a look at my foot. ASS HOLE JERK This idiot who operated on me - and who knows who that was, I never saw Caulfield that day. The JERK didn't go to were the glass was, no, instead this idiot follows the path the emerg Dr. tried. Even after seeing me 3 days earlier, confirming where the glass is. Who ever operated on me, cuts me open aprox. 2 inches long and not where the glass is. Rather along the same path of the emerg Dr. !- 1 !/2 inches from the glass. Now if that isn't enough for screw ups. And to add to the TOTAL INCOMPETENCE to close a cut aprox 2 inches long These Buffoons put 4 maybe 5 stitches in my foot. How stupid and incompetent Dr.s are they allowing to practice. Even I know that a stitch, best placed is no more than a 1/4 inch apart, and when dealing with skin that will have added pressure on it, stitches should be a little closer. My wound, 4 days after surgery, was at least 1/4 inch wide apart. It took 4 months for my foot to heal. This experience caused me a great deal more pain than it should have. All because of the incompetent and insensitive ways of Dr.s, sorry gods of our medical system. What is the purpose of the college of physicians and surgeons if they do not check on the idiots they have licensed. Perhaps it might be time to sue the college so others will be better protected. Second Colonoscopy with Dr.caulfied, he was great and the whole process was well explained.
Not worth writing about, meeting him was enough, guess that says it all.
