I've been coming here since I was a small child. If you want a good hike, some nature, some history, and proximity to one of the better known rivers on the planet, this is a great place.
Personally, I use it for a run from Devil's Hole State Park down the long stairway, then along the lower trail to Whirlpool State Park, up the stairs there, then back to Devil's Hole along the upper trail. Many people simply hike the same trail, in either direction. You might go fishing or, at a low tourist time, you can just relax.
One thing worthy of knowing is that the Devil's Hole Cave is not the cave along the lower trail. That cave is part of a man-made industrial run-off system. The Devil's Hole Cave can be found by taking a rather derelict turn-off (to the right) as you are descending the Devil's Hole stairway.

A great place to hike. Don't go after the rain immediately. The rock would be slipper then would be hard to climb.

Stairs into the gorge are closed until spring 2018. No signage in the parking lot. More stars when they open them again. Great views of the gorge and power generation.

Great hike to the bottom of gorge and then back up at Whirlpool stairs. NOTE: Devils Hole stairs are out of service & being rebuilt till Spring 2018

We could only view from the top, as they had crews there ridding the rock walls of loose rocks. It was very pretty and we were disappointed we couldn't go to the bottom, though we understand why. Glad that the Park staff keeps a good eye out and keeps guests safe.
