Breakfast pastries and sandwiches are good! Customer service and their birthday cakes-not so much. Customer service "Linda" was very rude. Ordered cake was decorated nice but had no flavor and was dry. Between customer service and cake, I can only give 2 stars. I don't mind paying for a good cake but this was definitely not worth it. I will not order from here again.

Still as good as ever. Still over-priced but we go for the bakery experience. We stay and have coffee & a bite and relax for a while.

Ordered a cake online for my mother's 85th birthday. I could have gone to Mariano's but decided that for this special event I would order from a dedicated bakery. What a mistake.
The cake was encased in a one inch thick layer of buttercream making it way too sweet for human consumption. The cake (sponge) was dry and flavorless. And I was charged $45, twice what I could have ordered from Mariano's (which would have been better quality).
I served the cake and watched my family members scoop the sponge off the barrier of buttercream. Every plate came back with a huge gob of buttercream on it. Not only did I not receive any compliments on the cake, nobody wanted to take any home.
I went to bakery in Buffalo Grove to lodge a complaint. The assistant manager (don't know where the manager was) said I had to bring the cake in. Eyeballing the remainder of the cake would not tell her how poorly it tasted. She was trying to obfuscate the issue as I was requesting restitution for their over-priced bakery block. The cake was cut up and frozen and I refused to jump through this unnecessary hoop.
I tried to call Deerfield's main number only to get bounced around their voicemail system without the ability to talk to a human being. I also emailed customer support and did not get a response.
What really gets my goat was that I wanted to make this a day to remember for my mother who does not have many birthdays left. Too bad the memory she will have will be that of a lousy, expensive cake.
So don't buy anything at Deerfields unless you want over-priced, low quality baking goods with poor customer service.

I've been going to Deerfield Bakery in Deerfield, and later Buffalo Grove, for almost 30 years It was always my "go to" bakery for birthday cakes and dessert trays. The last couple times I've been there, most recently this past weekend, have been disappointing. I stopped in around 11:00 on Saturday morning to buy a large selection of miniatures (pecan tarts, cheesecake tarts, petit fours, etc.) but there was almost nothing in the case. Other than a ton of cupcakes, it was empty. So I waited a while for someone who finally decided to offer her assistance and asked if I could place an order for a dessert tray and she said she couldn't do that but suggested I stop in on Sunday to see what was in the case. I thought that was weird and wondered what kind of bakery this is? I don't know if they are slowly winding down to close their doors, but that's what it felt like. For several years now, I've been thinking it's time to find a new bakery, and now I'm sure of it. It's too bad, this used to be a great family tradition.

I purchased a blueberry pie, which was very disappointing. The pie had an overly artificial flavor to it. I was also turned off by the visible dust on the heating vents throughout the store.
