*Updating my review because The Dog House continues to be a great choice for food, drink, and atmosphere. They even have Doggie Sunday Roasts now! Best day of my dog’s life, honestly. Original Review: I recently moved here, and this has become my regular pub after trying others in the area. Staff went out of their way to make it a pleasant Sunday for us, and the food is great
Whilst recently staying in Kennington we stopped by for some dinner here. We ordered the Beer-battered Fish & Chips with mushy peas and the King Prawn Linguini. Both were average at best the prawn linguine only had 5 x prawns and was cold. Unsure why the dishes had started to go cold as the place was not that busy. Unfortunately they were also not worth the price. Shame, as this place was located super close to our accommodation and we had thought we would eat breakfast there the next day along with upcoming dinners but decided we would try the many other pubs nearby which by the way had better meals. Gave an extra star as the bar staff were efficient, helpful and friendly.
Great atmosphere in this Victorian pub on Kennington Road with its inviting wooden flooring, and a good choice of beer to be had. I went for the Routemaster Red by Southwark Brewing, which was, to my joy, served in a barrel glass. The punters were very friendly, and we made note of the Sunday roast menu for when we're back in the area.
The fish and chips was decent and the hand cut chips was a nice touch. Only stayed shortly for food but will come back for the beer garden which had nice vibes.
Lovely stuff and atmosphere. Definitely recommend for a casual drink or two
I'm sorry but £25 for two gin and tonics is THEFT. Nice staff, great atmosphere but life is expensive already and this is a joke. At what point do we riot?
I would leave a 0 star review if possible. The service is terrible. A waitress came to our table around 8:30 saying there was a new booking at 9:15 and if we didn't leave, their manager would come and kick us out of the place. We were so surprised, she could have just say there was another booking and we'd be cool with it but she was so rude, completely unnecessary, we were super happy so far. Then the manager dint want to serve us anymore, and when I went to talk to him he accused us of swearing to his team which never happened and the guy was completely furious. We were having a good time watching a world cup game. What a shame because the location and place are great.
Awful hospitality - attended with a friend and his girlfriend and infant daughter. Barmaid acted so unprofessionally, when it came past 5pm and refused to serve my friend a round drinks despite paying for them, while having served us beforehand and completely aware of the child in the pram! This place is not child friendly and a disgrace!
My partner and I arrived on a very cold winter evening, there was not much choice as to where to go but the dog house seemed friendly enough. We sat there enjoying our drinks next to a warm radiator. The female staff were extremely friendly and helpful. But what spoilt the end of our evening is when management decided to be very unkind and leave the the door wide open letting all the heat out because they wanted us to leave. Why not just say it’s time to leave and we would drink up and go. We closed the door to keep in line with ESG regulations but was soon opened up again letting all that wasted heat outside.
Absolutely inedible beef roast. So chewy! I have been charged £20 for couple of roast potatoes, soggy Yorkshire pudding and 2 pieces of beef like rubber ! Not good ! Get a ready meal from Tesco, you will enjoy it more.
