CRU - Bar à Huîtres

This is by far my favourite restaurant. The staff are so friendly and well educated on their menu. The food is made to perfection and I am never disappointed by the service. My favourite item on the menu is the tuna tartar, the fresh summery taste is to die for!!! 5 stars!!!

It was a last minute decision to have dinner here and I'm glad we did. Upon entering the restaurant, there was this air of modern elegance and was greeted by one of the wait staff, where he offered to take our coats. Since we arrived at 5:30PM, it was relatively empty (on a Sunday), so we were offered a table for 2 near the windows, which offered a nice view. The staff was attentive and overall provided a good service. The time in-between courses was just long enough for us to have a decent chat and rest. Most of the dishes were full of flavour and was well-cooked. The two downsides I could think of, was that the waiter didn't really inform us that the main dishes were pretty big and we did not manage to finish our main course. Having said that, they were nice enough to pack the leftovers nicely (still awesome as a leftover lunch). The other was when I rang last minute (at 5PM) to make a reservation and whoever answered the phone seemed unfriendly and quick to hang-up without asking for a name or saying goodbye (I understand that it's quiet, but still..). Not going to dock points for this, but something that could be improved on. Overall, I definitely recommend this place for any special occasion or if you decide to spoil yourself.

May 19, 2017 supper was very very good, oysters fresh and no shell, drinks were refreshing and tasty. 5 stars, and rarely, as my wife also noticed, would I say need to go back. Period. July 03, 2017 lunch one oyster out of six was not fresh, waiter did not ask if everything was ok, and did not notice the bad oyster I spit out on the shell lying on the plate. I am no expert of eating mussels and not a food critic, but this was my first experience of half a plate of mussels not open, and the mussels quality wasn't that good that fresh. How do you serve that to a customer? Do you say that was a miss, or it was normal for half a plate of mussels cooked, but not open? Two stars deducted. I ate half a plate and refused to finish the other half. After we reflected the fact to the waiter, he apologized and let us order something else. Beef tacos were delicious. Waiter approached us and waived the tacos, as it was more expensive than the mussels. Add back one star.

My boyfriend and I stopped in for a last minute supper and it turned into a world class meal. We were pleased with the wait staff who were very attentive and amicable. We ordered several dishes that were fresh and flavourful. The price is a little over medium range but every bite is worth it. We will be back again!

We had a wonderful experience at Cru! Happened to stumble upon the restaurant searching for oyster bars online and were not disappointed. The service was fantastic, very helpful about which oysters to try and then treated us to a complimentary taster as a welcome to Montreal. I will definitely be returning to Cru! Thank you so much to the lovely staff and the delicious food experience!
