I recently ended up going to the ER at 9:30pm on a Thursday night. I was in excruciating abdominal pain, and seen after only waiting a half hour or so. While it took a while to get imaging done, the ER staff were all so kind and helpful. Doing what they could to try and relieve my pain and give me fluids. Once imaging confirmed it was my gallbladder, I was given an anti-inflammatory that helped immensely bring the pain down from a 10 to a 3. After a couple hours I was taken up to my official room and would be having surgery in the afternoon. Nursing staff overnight was so sweet, and checked on me often, but not too often where I couldn’t get some naps in. In the afternoon I was brought down to surgery and spoke with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, nursing staff, ER techs, etc. They explained everything to me and answered any questions I had. Don’t remember a thing after being wheeled into the operating room. When I was brought to my room, once again the nursing staff was so amazing to me, up until my discharge the following day.nnTo summarize. Crouse Hospital and staff really helped me so much in an emergency situation. Everyone from the doctors, nurses, anesthesiologist, ER techs, medical technicians, nursing assistants, to even the sanitation staff and the staff who takes food orders were all seriously so incredibly gentle, caring, and sweet to me. No hyperbole, EVERY medical staff member treated me with the utmost kindness. I hope I don’t have to go to the hospital again anytime soon, but if I’m still in Syracuse, it’s Crouse. Thank you to everyone from the hospital who helped me.
The staff in the NICU and sent by god. On the recovery floor I can’t say the same so much. I understand a lot when it comes to the health field, but what I don’t understand is the lack of professionalism. There shouldn’t be a wait time when you call for the nurse and check the nursing station and there’s 10 nurses on their phones or joking around and playing. I had to run off to get my son from school. While I was gone, my wife was allowed to wander off to the 12th floor shortly after surgery still under the effects of the medicine. She almost passed out and they had to get her a wheelchair when she made it to the 12th floor. When I got back and I was informed what happened. I asked for the nursing manager, instead of getting the nursing manager I got the nurse that allowed her to go up there in that condition. Though she admitted she was wrong, it didn’t make any sense on why I wasn’t given the ability to speak to management. Sad that people chose jobs to help but hate doing it.
I had a great experience delivering my February baby at Crouse. The staff was so attentive and helpful. Everyone I saw seemed really passionate about maternity and helping me as I enter motherhood. From the doctors, nurses and lactation specialists I felt like me and the baby were in good hands.
It is impossible to rate any hospital w 5 stars. But I've had 20 surgeries, 15 major, so I know hospitals. They will never please everyone. Crouse does the best they can to make your stay pleasant. The best nurses that try not to wake you up at night while getting vitals and the cleaning staff that wipes down every surface imaginable. Even the cafeteria will go out of their way with your special requests. Oh and there's the doctors and Surgeons. The ones I've dealt with are very good. Always good to look at all your options, near and afar. Learn as much as you can, read mayo and Cleveland clinic. Research where in the world do they perform this surgery the best. Get health insurance for peats sake. Don't use the Er like it's your primary doctor. Get use to having to wait for every little tiny thing you want.nGet family or friends to come in to help. Also most importantly you must be your own advocate. Fight for what you need. Whether it be an extra creamer or a pint of blood.
On July 19, 2021 I brought my wife to the ER at about 4:30 am as she had a brain stroke. She was examined by Mr Crumb, who I thought was a qualified surgeon. However, he turned out to be a Physician’s assistant. As per the medical records obtained from Crouse, my wife had a brain surgery by Mr Crumb without the supervision of any doctor. Mr Crumb performed the surgery alone in a private room without any assistance of a nurse or anyone. This has been shocking to me. My wife passed away in 3 days after the surgery. I have reported this negligence by Crouse hospital and professional misconduct to the NY state dept of health in Albany NY over two years back. Per my yesterday’s visit to the NY state department of health office on 217 S Salina St, their supervisor in charge of the investigation, Mr Justin Marchesani said that they are still investigating the professional misconduct. Mr Justin told me it will take a few more months. This is absolutely unacceptable as lives of many patients at ER crouse are endangered by such professional misconduct. I have not filed a legal case as I feel I cannot get back my sweet wife by doing that.
