My girlfriend and I went to Crab Hot Lau on our holiday a few weeks back. Food was delicious, taste very authentic north Vietnamese and ingredients fresh. We actually enjoyed the dinner so much that we came back for hot pot Lau on our return to the city a week later. The hosts believe it’s the owner really made us feel at home.
Lots of great snacks and food, especially if you're into crab. Highly recommend the square Northern crab spring rolls. In my opinion all the side dishes I tried were great. Can't wait to return and try the other ones! The crab hotpot itself was good and the broth gets more flavourful as you add food. Recommend to eat as at least a group of 4-6 people.
My friends and I searched online and found this special Vietnamese restaurant that was highly rated, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered three dishes to share. They were a crab hot pot for one person, glutinous sticky rice with mung been, pork floss, fried shallots, and Vietnamese ham and an appetizer A4 - Fresh vegetables, pork belly and pork skin. Wrap it yourself with rice paper. We did not enjoy any of the dishes unfortunately. The appetizer was very dry even though we could dip the rice paper into the fish sauce. We couldn’t taste the crab broth in the crab hot pot. The crab hot pot came with some sauce with crab cream/sauce but the crab hot pot didn’t give us a crab flavour at all. We felt disappointed about this dish. The sticky rice with mung been, pork floss, fried shallots and Vietnamese ham was a bit better among the three dishes. We might probably order the wrong dishes. But we did not enjoy the three dishes at all. We could have gone to better Vietnamese restaurants in the same neighbourhood. I gave three stars because the service was good. Servers paid attention to us and provided what we needed. There is street parking right in front of the restaurant on Kingsway. People can also park on the small streets in the residential area.
Great food, clean presentation, with amazing services! It was our first time trying this type of food and all the staffs were super helpful on recommending must try dishes and how to eat them. Hot pot was great for cold weather, but our favourite was crab spring roll. Cant wait to go back to try other crab dishes! Highly recommend!
Had been eyeing this place for the longest time and finally made a visit yesterday. Ordered #1B and #2, and both came with the crab broth. The broth was light but very flavorful. The highlight of the night were definitely the square crab spring rolls. They were crispy and stuffed with lots of meat, glass noodles and veggies. They were like a meal itself. We enjoyed everything. Already making plan to go back to try the hot pot and other dishes.
We came here for dinner. The chicken wings were our favorite - great texture and cooked perfectly. The crab hot pot left a little more to be desired. We expected some crab meat with the soup but it only came with the innards. Overall a good weeknight dinner choice!
I love their crab spring roll. Sooooo crispy and packed full of crab and flavour. The hot pot was very pricey but enough for suggested serving if you order other items. Overall great flavours and unique experience
New restaurant just opened in November. I was excited to try this place. We arrived just before dinner rush. It seems like you may need a reservation to be safe to get a seat. I read some reviews and ordered the spring rolls $20 for two pieces. You can just eat this as a meal. The fish sauce was mild but way too spicy. We ordered the hot pot for two as everyone seemed to order it and no suggestions were given. It came with noodles, some veg, pork fatty rolls etc. portion was little small but good experience. Service was fast and good. It’s cold inside so I would wear something warm.
Since they opened, we have visited this place for lunch a few times. I like their unique northern Vietnamese pho which is served with brown wide flat rice noodles ,leaf wrapped pork and fish cake, with lots of vegetables. The broth is always good but I can’t taste any crab. The pork rinds bring a very good flavour to the clear soup. A lot of Instagram influencers recommended the crab spring rolls so we ordered some to try. They were crispy and tasty, but not really outstanding and quite pricey. The decor is simple and clean, and the service is okay. I would come back if the staff checked vaccination passports.
Treasure for Vietnamese food on Kingsway. The crab spring rolls are divine. The grilled squid was also very tasty and perfect texture. Fish-sauce glazed chicken wings were divine, and not at all fishy! I will def be coming back for the hot pot.
