We are a midwifery practice located in downtown Toronto, Canada.
We are a group of nine midwives: Bridget Lynch, Jennifer Goldberg, Mary Fish, Fariba Shodjaie, Dione Amsterdam, Kristen Dennis, Elena Ikonomou, Alusha Morris, and Lauren McEachern. Becky Lambert is our current New Registrant, and Lisa Thacker will be starting her New Registrant year with us this fall. Tracey Reid is currently working as a locum in our practice.
In Ontario, a midwife is a registered health care professional who provides primary care to low-risk clients throughout pregnancy, labour and birth. Midwives also provide care to both client and baby during the six weeks following birth. They are available to clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week by pager.
Community Midwives of Toronto is committed to providing an inclusive, safe environment for all, including equitable treatment with dignity and respect for diversity regardless of a person’s race, citizenship, place of origin, ethnic origin, colour, ancestry, age, religion, family status, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, immigration status, size or level of ability.
In Ontario, if you see a midwife you will not see a physician unless there are concerns or complications. Most births are normal and there are no complications. If there are complications, midwives can consult or transfer care to a physician. Midwives provide safe and expert care to healthy clients and newborns.
The midwives at our practice speak English, French, Spanish, Farsi, Greek, Japanese and Dutch.
Ontario midwives provide care under a model and philosophy which includes the belief that people have the right to make informed choices.
Midwives are able to attend births at home and in the hospital, and at the Toronto Birth Centre. The hospital where we hold privileges is St. Michael's Hospital in downtown Toronto. Clients in Ontario under the care of a midwife choose where to give birth. Your midwife will assess your health needs and provide information to ensure you can make a safe and informed decision about where to have your baby.
