I found out about Clover through Google sending me 'Hidden Gems', suggested places I would like, so went with a friend to check it out. 5* to say I truly enjoyed the place and will be returning to continue trying out the menu. Reviews will be updated accordingly. But, for a first timer... Beautiful place, great modern setup, open semi kitchen, excellent fast service and server Michelle knew what she was serving, the menu prepared by Chef Monday. We had a soup and chicken liver pâté for starters. Soup was VV vegan/vegetarian super smooth, creamy and velvety with smoked eggplants giving extra kick of a flavour, topped with herb infused oil. Pâté had a rich flavour sweet sauce and was well made: excellent texture and great flavour without eggy scents or flavours some get. Main: one order salmon fillet with a poached egg on a bed of beans and potatoes. Hot and crisp on the outside, well cooked all the way in and moist. Price: $$$ paying for quality and service $75 for 4 dishes with 2 green teas Super clean all around. Coming back soon. Sorry no photo of the fish... Wiped out too quickly :
Top notch eccentric and ambitious cuisine - paired with a great craft beer selection. Friendly and knowledgeable service in a really funky and happy atmosphere - great for both Sunday brunch and a Friday night dinner - make sure to check out their special event pairings with local brewers!
I like the atmosphere, the staff was friendly, service was reasonably fast and I enjoyed the food. I wish the price was slightly lower around lunch time. Clover is a great place to celebrate an occasion.
The food was great. I had a slab of pork that I split with my wife and added veggies: super tasty. The chef is creative and her food is awesome. I've been coming to this place since it opened and have never been disappointed with the staff or the food. One could skip dessert though without losing out. This is a five star for food, but lost a star because the credit card machine rips clients off if you don't pay attention: when I input 15% for the tip to automatically calculate, it used the amount of the bill including taxes to calculate the tip. When a friend informed the staff of the issue, the response was unapologetic, made an excuse that it was a known technical problem that needed to be fixed. Did not seem genuine. I was going to bring my wife there for her birthday next week, but because of this, we're now booking somewhere else.
Went there for the first time last night and was not disappointed. We' were celebrating our 6 Year Anniversary and they made it a wonderful experience. The beef and polenta was perfect and my partner's salmon was not only on point but was also a large portion. To top if off, they provided a dessert on the house to end the night. I would recommend trying this place out!
One of my favourite spots for a nice lunch in the city. Great food and great atmosphere.
I went to Clover for their dinner service and it was extremely slow. Me and my friends waited for over an hour to receive our meals. While the staff was apologetic, it in no way helped that half of the plates were either underwhelming or nearly inedible. Half of my friends ordered the burger, which they enjoyed, while the other half ordered the squash, salmon and steak. The squash and salmon dishes were exceedingly salty, to the point where my friend and I could not finish our plates. The steak on the other hand, was a very small portion for the price. On average, Clover has received very good ratings, which I found to be quite misleading. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this establishment.
I have been to Clover a few times during my visits to Ottawa from New York City, and each visit has been a great visit. The atmosphere is warm and the staff seems like they are a close-nit family, and they actually make you feel like family or a close friend. They go beyond cordiality and are genuinely kind and conversational. The food is excellent. They have some great burgers, and even if one of the burgers is not your particular taste, I certainly admire their effort to challenge the palates of their patrons with all of their selections not just the burgers. I've been to a ton of restaurants that have predictable items on the menu, and combine predictable tastes because they know what works and they don't seek to challenge the taster. The effort is visible in each dish's presentation and I can't recall having something that wasn't full of flavor. Clover keeps me guessing, and I love that about them.
Best chicken liver pâté I've had, maybe ever. The saffron risotto was loaded with flavour, accompanied by hearty veggies. Loved all the dishes we ordered. I also got chilly and put my jacket on and within minutes the staff had noticed and adjusted the thermostat. So thoughtful :
My first meal in Ottawa and now I don't want to go anywhere else. They put an extraordinary amount of time, thought and love into every aspect of this place, from the barman's beer recommendations to the precise eloquence of the food. Nothing too fussy: just the important things done with great care and attention to detail. Wonderful friendly staff, great wine, affordable cocktails and a great music selection. Every capital city should have a restaurant this good.
