Great big sites, clean rest room, beautiful sky at night. We stayed at site 5 which was next to the rest room but it was still very quiet as most of the campers were there in their RVs. Close to Buffalo, WY if you need to run into town for supplies. Hiked up to Sherd Lake, which was invigorating but doable for non athletes. Would definitely go again.

Great camping spots! It's far enough away from your neighbors but close enough to water and restrooms. Easy to find. Trees were a great fit for my first time hammock camping. We stayed in #2 and I loved the rocks around our site we climbed up and enjoyed the evening.

I gave it 5 stars because Big Horn National Forest is absolutely beautiful but I have a tale to tell about this particular campground... There are about 10 campsites, first come first serve. We arrived at around 2:00pm in the afternoon on a Saturday at the end of June and there were about 5 or 6 spots available, I'd say it was full by 6:00pm. We settled in, cooked dinner over our fire and the camp host/ranger drives by to check on everyone (There's no established camp host at this campground, she just drives through once in the evening. She swings by our site (#10) which is tucked away from the other sites a little bit. She tells us that there is a moose that likes to come out into the clearing near our campsite every evening at 8:00pm and then tells us to have a good night. I watch for the moose and lo and behold there she is about 150-200 yards out from our tent/campsite. I'm watching her through binoculars for a while and then I see another larger female moose in the bushes by the clearing. Slowly they are making their way across the field (nearer to our campsite but still 100 yards away) We don't think much of it and figure once it's dark they'll make their way back to where they came from. So we put out our campfire shortly after dark because we were exhausted from driving all day. We sit for a few minutes watching the embers fade as we hear LOUD FRANTIC SNORTING sounds from very close in the clearing, I'm talking there's about 20 feet of scattered tree coverage and then the clearing. I look over through the trees and I see two moose silhouettes RUNNING back and forth. Luckily, these are drive-in sites so me and my boyfriend rush to sit in the car. Both HUGE MOOSE walk right up, 5 feet from our tent) and up in front of my car and 2 feet away from the passenger side where I was sitting. The biggest one decides to lay down 30 feet from my car. AMAZING experience. However, it forced us to sleep in the car until the sun was out just enough to see that they had moved on. SO, beware of the campsite #10 unless you want to be trampled by moose. The guy in the tent across the way heard them but he was already settled in his tent and the moose seemed to like to stay by us. The other campers there had no idea what had happened that night! Other details: $14 cash, no change. No host on site, but a ranger does drive by to check in. Vault toilets available. Fire rings available but must go to a campground a few miles away to purchase wood. Many warnings about moose on the entrance board - read them!! Water pump available. Saw a mix of tents and hard-sided campers. There is also a ton of people dispersed camping for free about a mile away if you want to rough it a little bit more.
