Battle Park Trailhead

Gorgeous place to ride. Primitive camp with spring water for horses only. Outhouses for people. Nice pens, stantions or high lines for the horses. Only bad thing is the 15 mile road back to camp, took us 2 hrs to get back there, the road is horrible.

Lovely horse camp. The camp host does not turn anyone away. Two vault toilets in the horse camp and flowing water in several horse troughs. People water is quite far away at the trailhead. Camping by donation with a donation box as you enter the horse camp. I recommend you buy the trail/National Forest map from the Host. The down side if you’ve never been there is that the trails are very poorly marked, or not marked at all. There are some very steep, rocky and technical areas. Especially one called “Pucker” pass or ridge. It follows the Paint Rock River valley. At one point you are on a trail about two feet wide, on a sheer slope, with a 300 foot steep drop off to the raging River below. It is very easy to get lost. Ride in groups and be sure to sign the available cards that state when you leave camp necessary when riding in the Cloud Peak Wilderness.

Restrooms were clean. Plenty of space to park, trails were well marked.

Perfect place for my husband and I to vacation. He could go fly fishing while I rode my horse. There were 4-wheeler trails and horse trails, which accommodates both of our interest.
