Very cool small cinema bar with excellent curated classic movies and new ones. So small, the first or second row are almost unusable. Only reason not to give 5 stars. Next time I'll buy my tickets more in advance.
Amazing place, I loved working and drinking coffee with the amazing smell of popcorn
One of my favourite things to do in Montreal. This is such a unique cinematic experience. You enter through the bar and go through a set of black doors at the back to enter the sole theater room. They have lots of movie viewings of unique and hand-picked films. The snack bar is quite limited, only serving popcorn and the bar's menu of food. There are also very few non-alcoholic beverages to choose from. However, we didn't feel like it took away from the experience and we're excited to go back soon!
Amazing programming, great drink selection & reasonnable prices. What more can you ask for ? This place is amazing !
The main draw of Cinéma Moderne is the programming. I go there when they are showing a film that is otherwise unavailable to me short of buying the DVD. The novelty of the intimate screening room housed in the back of a café also carries some appeal. And they do try to give it the personal touch by introducing the film. Even though the ticket price is in line with a multiplex, the screen is not comparably big; it's more like the type of film room you would expect a rich guy to set up in his basement. Thankfully, the seats are on a steep incline, so you don't have to worry about a tall person plunking down in front of you and blocking your view. However, you don't get a ton leg room. You do have to buy your tickets in advance using their website, but this makes sense seeing as there are so few seats. It prevents customers from being disappointed. There are snacks available, but since I always wear a mask in confined spaces, I have never bought any of them. Going here is a pleasant night out and I appreciate that they continue to show films that I want to see or revisit.
Had my first film premier here, great quality, good staff, and lovely atmosphere!
Nice cinema agenda, room, projector and sound. The place could be cleaner but what can you expect if they sell popcorn
Very pricey for what it is. Refreshments are equally unaffordable. That being said, the theatre itself is rather intimate and they do host an interesting selection of films that might not be shown elsewhere. Staff are very obviously passionate about the art of film too!
Love this place. I love the movie selection and it's really nice to be able to order beers and bring them into the theatre. Really nice alternative to the cineplex cinemas, this feels so much more like a place for the community.
With their one theatre room and bar for ordering drinks and snacks, this was a very cozy experience! Their small staff is also very nice and enjoys chatting with the moviegoers. I like how they make a Facebook event for every scheduled movie so it's easy to keep track of what you want to watch. They program many older films that aren't mainstream but will always have a crowd interested in watching them on the big screen.
