The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We were a large group of 8 adults and 2 toddlers. Service was quick, especially considering the rest of the restaurant was full and the food was delicious. Especially the lobster roll! It was served on a pretzel bun and one of the best I’ve ever had!
During our visit to Tatamagouche, NS, we had the pleasure of having lunch at Chowder House on Main. What a treat it was! This charming eatery truly encapsulates the warmth and welcoming spirit of the town.nnThe star of the show was undoubtedly their clam chowder. Served steaming hot, it was both delicious and plentiful, with a rich, creamy base that was perfectly seasoned. Every spoonful was a delight, comforting and filling - exactly what you'd hope for in a classic Maritime chowder.nnThe ambiance of the Chowder House on Main added to the dining experience. It's a cozy spot that feels like you're dining in a friend's home, with décor that reflects the coastal community's heritage and welcoming charm.
I have eaten at the Chowder House a few times, and always had good food and service, but when I went there last week, the service was very slow, the waitresses never smiled, the waitress never came back to ask us how we liked our meal she never refilled water, glasses, etc. We were going to order dessert but the waitress never came back to ask if we wanted dessert, and we waited a long time. So we just paid our bill and left. The food we had was good. They closed the restaurant down at six because they ran out of food at 6:00, on a Saturday night. Maybe they were all tired and stressed, and maybe they need to hire more people. Not sure what was going on there.
This is a food review only- not sure if this establishment has an important reputation to the local area that I’m missing out on. I liked the seafood chowder more than the clam chowder- that one was under seasoned and seemed to have more sad pieces of bacon than clam. We just came from Newfoundland so I think the comparison was difficult, but the chowder did not impress. Side salad was okay, bread didn’t seem like it was likely made nearby or onsite.
I recently visited the chowder house and was disappointed with my experience. The service was incredibly slow, making the wait for our meal frustrating. When the food finally arrived, the portions were surprisingly small considering the high prices. To top it off, the overall taste of the dishes was underwhelming. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet my expectations, and I likely won't be returning.nn---
