The chicken in the meteorite burger is incredibly juicy and tender, although the blackness of the chicken and the bun really doesn't make a difference taste-wise. It's also one of the few places that make fried chicken gizzards, pretty good. The promo that says Get 50% off for orders over $20 could use better clarification, the 50% off only applies to anything after the $20 has been reached before tax, it's not a discount of 50% off your entire order. The relatively higher price point is definitely justified.
I had the "Fresh Grade Leg" for $9.99. It's not fast food, they fry each order fresh when you order it which makes it super crispy and very very hot! I got garlic flavour which is just a dry seasoning on top. They give you wet naps and disposable gloves with your order.
First time visiting this location. Ordered the chicken burger original and spicy. If you are expecting the burger to be crispy .... You may want to order something else. The taste was good but it was not crispy. This is not a jab I am just calling it out in case this is what you are expecting I look forward to visiting again and trying some of their other more specialty items.
We parked along the side street, and looks like a new food store for us. Curiosity led us to buy a chicken combo, comes with fries and drink I chose the soda. The chicken sandwich has a big part of tender-juicy white meat, mayo and lettuce, plus the bun itself is satisfying. The fries literally taste way more different from a regular fast food chain. I rated a 10 out of 10, and will be back surely some other time. It’s a must try taste to perfection new fried chicken shop. The take out is really cute. Double thumbs up..
I can't help but order the popcorn chicken poutine whenever I need a pick-me-up and then a nap! The chicken is wonderfully fried, the cheese is generous and the gravy comes on the side which lets you complete this masterpiece yourself.
The black chicken wings' meat was moist & the skin was crispy. Chicken gristle was spicy & crispy. Yam fries was a big portion for $3.99! What a deal!
Thin and crispy crust. We went during off-peak time, so the fried chicken was fried upon order instead of pre-fried. Had to wait about 15 minutes, but I'd say the fried chicken is pretty good if you prefer thin crust over heavily breaded ones.
Very overpriced. 1 small chicken gristle box and charcoal chicken burger costs more than $20. The burger even tastes like a piece of dirty kitchen cloth. Highly doubt they clean their kitchen properly.
So, Chirpyhut – known for their “meteorite” chicken, recently opened up in Burnaby. It seems like covid has really pushed the desire for people to eat fried chicken. Now, you might think that Chirpyhut’s meteorite chicken is burnt but that’s really not the case. In actuality, they use squid ink to give their chicken and their buns that characteristic black colour. I stopped by in early March and ordered their Spicy Black Meteorite Burger $11.55, Spicy Chicken Legs $6.50, and French Fries $2.99. I actually wanted to try some of their other menu items but they didn’t have a lot of options in stock possibly because they just opened recently. I thought that the food was a bit cold and needed reheating when I brought it home I only live like 5 mins away but I’ll probably have to give them the benefit of the doubt that this might be because it was for take-out. The squid ink bun was a bit on the dry side but the chicken had a nice spicy kick. While I found that the chicken itself had a nice crispy coating, the meat on the inside wasn’t as juicy as other fried chicken places and the drumstick meat was a bit stringy. Is the “meteorite” chicken just a gimmick? Yes… but it’s a bit fun to try. One thing I will warn you is that I had pieces of black bun/chicken stuck in my teeth after I ate it so it might be a good idea to floss afterwards if you plan to go on a date afterwards.
