I loved Chili John's, but it's nothing like it once was... Chilly has no spice and no flavor now. I also had to drain a cup of grease from my bowl. I spoke to the waitress, and she stated that it's how the chili is now, and people come to just order the grease. I'm not a health freek and I like some grease in my food, but gross...
Hi all, I started eating chili John's chili from a young age, maybe 5, or 6, it's always been my favorite chili, other than moms. I went to the new location on packerland , it's a nice place and the staff was great, I ordered superbowl and I took some home, good experience for me. I'd recommend it for the chili, I don't know about the other choices. I'm sure everyone has their own taste, but I love it, pricey, but to me it's worth it
This is some of the best chili you'll get. I prefer to get mine hot with noodles and beans..Boom!
Last month I got a bowl of chili and a bowl of booyah for take-out. I think this was the first time I ever had Chili John's and I love chili. I drained 1/2 inch of grease off and tried to stomach the chili. I was ill within an hour and couldn't eat for 24 hours. I have never had a problem tolerating spicy food. The flavor was odd. I did call to mention that I felt something was off about the chili. She was nice and stated she will mention to cook. Then my husband the next day tried a spoonful of the booyah and it was rancid. I thought it smelled odd when I initially brought it home but thought it was a certain spice that was used.
Great place, great food. Awesome experience there. Chili was awesome, and the wraps!!!
Drove to the new location on 5 separate occasions and each time they were closed during normal business hours. Finally caught them open and ordered a quart of chili to go. Got home to discover it was a quart of spaghetti noddles with a 1/2 regular bowl serving of meat. What a joke. I returned to the store to show them what I had received. The waitress said that’s the way we do it now. I returned food. A terrible location and now a terrible product. The new owners have destroyed an iconic brand. Go to festival foods and ask for the “bowl of red” chili seasoning; follow the directions exactly. It’s chili John’s.
RUN FAR AWAY and RUN VERY VERY FAST! SAVE YOUR $$$$$$$ Over priced less than par chili my husband makes better chili and they rip you off....ordered two bowls for residents at an assisted living complex and only one bowl in the bag - for $20.72. Tried calling them and no asnwer and they are open...called every minute for an hour and no answer. Also they charge you a $1.75 carryout fee if not eating there - WTH! They should be happy someone is buying their overpriced gosh awful small bowl of dirt, I mean chili ! my kids thought it looked like a bowl of dirt LOL - but the top of it did look like dirt should have taken a pix Here is what we received - a small bowl maybe one cup of spaghetti noodles with a litte "sauce", a sprinkle of maybe 15 beans and that is pushing it and a 1/4" at the most of some type of black - yes I said black - "meat" on it. Kids said the top looked like dirt and under the dirt were worms and a few pebbles. Tried a tiny taste of the black substance and was enough to make you puke..... Save yourself some moey and go get Kwik Trip chili - better tasting and much less expensive!
Kudos to Brian for helping me with a mail order to Texas. It was my son-in-law's birthday, and he loves nothing more than Chili John's except for my daughter, of course so I called Brian, and he obliged me to pack up a couple quarts of meat sauce in safe shipping containers and send them off to Dallas. Though I paid for overnight, they arrived two days later, but Zach's still a happy birthday boy.
Good, but just not my thing. My husband LOVES this chili, but it's not the kind of chili I'm personally used to. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. I got the Philly steak sandwich which was good, but not as flavorful as I had hoped. We ate for a total of $20 so it's not bad, but I feel like the chili is a little pricey for what you get. The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive
Very disappointed, having grown up with CJ's from downtown to Military to now, seems that quality of product, service, and ambiance have diminished to the extent that CJ's is now unrecognizable and inedible. OMG was it bad, chili cold and needed nuked, no beverages other than regular Pepsi, rude service, the famous taste of the chili gone, we were overcharged, and the etc's were numerous. Will never be back, my homemade version of the chili outshines the junk this place is now serving.
