Our mission is to “inspire, engage and celebrate youth through community participation.”
OUR PROGRAMS:
Calgary Youth Foundation
If youth have an idea to improve their community, we have the money to back them up! This program is operated by youth who are responsible for distributing grant money to important youth-driven projects.
Youth of Distinction Awards
This annual city-wide award program recognizes and celebrates youth the amazing ways in which they have chosen to live their lives—and the difference they make to our community. Award categories include: perseverance, leadership and volunteerism.
Mayor’s Youth Council
The Mayor’s Youth Council is an expressive group of youth who advise City of Calgary officials on issues such as transportation, the environment and public spaces and places. By sharing their viewpoints, council members add a youth perspective to municipal decisions.
Youth Are Awesome
A blog-based site run by youth for youth, focusing on the great things the youth are doing and the great things they could be doing in Calgary. Youth Are Awesome includes news on cool youth events, volunteering opportunities, features on awesome youth in Calgary, and opinions on youth issues. Visit: www.youthareawesome.com
TD Youth Earth Ambassadors
The TD Youth Earth Ambassadors is program created and run by a youth leadership committee with the aim to create a network within Calgary that directly links schools and community agencies to foster collaboration and environmental change.
Youth Volunteer Corps
The Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) offers a variety of interesting team-based volunteer projects for youth, based on their personal interests and schedule. YVC gets groups of young volunteers into the community, gives them experience and lets them have fun all at the same time!
Youth Volunteer Corps in Schools
This program is similar to YVC; youth work with fellow students in a school-based club to create and complete projects that fill the needs of their schools and surrounding communities. H!PKids is an extended version of the program aimed at students in elementary schools. YVC After School is an extended version of the program operating in the far south communities of Calgary, however it does not operate in a specific junior or senior high school, but all young people in those communities are invited to join and make a difference in this area of Calgary.
Youth Week Calgary
Annually, Youth Week is part of an international event that’s like one big open house for youth. The City of Calgary, local businesses and youth-serving agencies celebrate young people by organizing cool events, contests and offering discounts or free entry to facilities.
