Chateau Lacombe Hotel

Story

The Chateau Lacombe is a hotel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.DescriptionOne of Edmonton's major hotels located in Downtown Edmonton, the Chateau Lacombe was first opened on 28 December 1966 by the Canadian Pacific Hotels Corporation. It features 307 rooms in the 24-storey cylindrical tower topped by Edmonton's only revolving restaurant, La Ronde, which offers sweeping views of both the city's downtown core and the North Saskatchewan river valley below as it makes a full rotation every 90 minutes.Canadian Pacific Hotels bought Canadian National Hotels, which owned and operated the nearby historic Hotel Macdonald. After CP Hotels and Resorts purchased Fairmont Hotels, the newer Chateau Lacombe was sold to investors and it was rebranded the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe. It was sold again in mid-2010 for $47.8m to local company Hargate Properties who retained the affiliation with Crowne Plaza Hotels but the new owners went into receivership in November 2011. The purchase of the hotel by Kevyn Frederick in 2010 later was discovered to be part of a large mortgage fraud in the Edmonton area. The hotel was bought out of receivership by the new ownership group for $27.5m in 2012, and in May 2013 the hotel was relaunched as an independent hotel.NameThe hotel is named after Father Albert Lacombe, an Oblate missionary and pioneer priest instrumental in the foundation and settlement of Alberta in the late 1800s.

It was more than a meal. It was an experience that was unforgettable. All the food was delicious. The view of the river valley was breathtaking. I would have gave them a 10/10 but, I detail was missed. Now, Jason one of the server's there made it right. He made the night more memorable. Thank you Jason. It is the service let Jason provides that will make me recommend this place to others.
I stayed here for 6 nights and it was amazing.nStarting with the front desk staff, they greeted you with smiles on their face and with a great attitude. Whenever I needed help or had inquiries, they were very helpful.nThe restaurant staff were amazing too. They have a breakfast, bistro and dinner restaurants inside of the hotel. Everyone was so attentive and have amazing service.nI travel to Edmonton at least a couple times a year and I know where I will be staying.
I have stayed at this hotel a number of times. I find it convenient to downtown and have never felt unsafe walking around the streets at night. Certainly there are homeless folk on the streets at all times but that seems to be the same in all big cities now, and I have never been approached by them or felt threatened. I find the service to be friendly and accommodating. I have always found the beds very comfortable and wifi, and bathroom facilities have always worked fine. I also find the rooms very quiet - I don't recall being bothered by the noise from a TV in an adjacent room as one experiences in quite a few places. The furniture is completely adequate given the tariff for the hotel. I will continue to stay here when I travel to Edmonton. I have two beefs however. Parking is $25.00 per night which is the most I have ever paid for any hotel and the parking garage is dingy and cramped with no marked or dedicated walkway area for pedestrians and a very tight laneway for vehicles, especially if trucks park on both sides. The hotel should insist that trucks and vans park on one side only and should erect signage accordingly. There appear to be much better deals available for the same parking facilities for non-hotel guests. So I felt ripped off. Also I could not seem to get any heat out of the heating system at night, although I admit I did not call anyone about this issue. The controls for the heating seemed simple but did not produce any result. The hotel will need to make certain that heating in all rooms is adequate as Fall approaches.
Have stayed many many nights at this location. Have been satisfied with our stays until today. We checked in early. After 2:00 pm and were told the early check in fee of $30 would be added to our bill. We check in early to avoid the long lineups and if our room was ready, what is the issue. We understand before noon that that could be an issue BUT not after 2:00, almost 3:00 pm. We use this hotel as it is cost efficient and close to Roger’s Place. To get checked in and ready for game time [which is an early game], it is imperative to check in when we did. $30 fee may seem like not a big deal to some but it would have decided if we had booked at another location. Take into consideration your loyal customers and how this makes your facility, that has very few working ice machines, and a parking garage that needs more work, this new fee will undoubtedly cause issues. If you truly care about your loyal guests, please make this right. All guests should be treated with respect but those who CHOOSE your facility time after time only to be slapped with this “unbeknownst” fee for checking in a bit early to avoid the “125” guests who will be checking in around 4. Would not make the game time if we did this.
The hotel is nice and well located, and my room was comfortable. During check-in, I observed the young lady at the front desk providing excellent service. Despite being very busy, she remained calm, courteous, and professional.nnHowever, I was disappointed to witness an unpleasant incident. An older woman possibly a “supervisor” raised her voice at the young receptionist in front of guests. It felt highly unprofessional and created an uncomfortable atmosphere. As a guest, I felt bad for the young woman, who was doing an outstanding job.nnMy 5-star rating is based solely on the excellent service provided by the young receptionist. She was sweet, accommodating, and handled a challenging situation with grace. If the older woman was a supervisor, her behavior was not appropriate for a leadership role, or perhaps she is not in the right department. I don’t mean to be harsh, but I believe such behavior should be addressed..
