Chateau Lacombe Hotel

Story

The Chateau Lacombe is a hotel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.DescriptionOne of Edmonton's major hotels located in Downtown Edmonton, the Chateau Lacombe was first opened on 28 December 1966 by the Canadian Pacific Hotels Corporation. It features 307 rooms in the 24-storey cylindrical tower topped by Edmonton's only revolving restaurant, La Ronde, which offers sweeping views of both the city's downtown core and the North Saskatchewan river valley below as it makes a full rotation every 90 minutes.Canadian Pacific Hotels bought Canadian National Hotels, which owned and operated the nearby historic Hotel Macdonald. After CP Hotels and Resorts purchased Fairmont Hotels, the newer Chateau Lacombe was sold to investors and it was rebranded the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe. It was sold again in mid-2010 for $47.8m to local company Hargate Properties who retained the affiliation with Crowne Plaza Hotels but the new owners went into receivership in November 2011. The purchase of the hotel by Kevyn Frederick in 2010 later was discovered to be part of a large mortgage fraud in the Edmonton area. The hotel was bought out of receivership by the new ownership group for $27.5m in 2012, and in May 2013 the hotel was relaunched as an independent hotel.NameThe hotel is named after Father Albert Lacombe, an Oblate missionary and pioneer priest instrumental in the foundation and settlement of Alberta in the late 1800s.

Great staff; friendly, respectful, asking to make stay better, valet offered to take bags to room and park car. Waitress was inviting, made small talk, made me feel at home. It’s not the newest place, but it is still very nice. Will be back again.
Pet friendly rooms should have some sort of air cleaner or something in them. Rooms in need of repair/update or deep clean at very least. pay for parking on top of everything else which would be nice to know ahead of time and not a hidden fee. Staff very friendly though!
The hotel was nice enough and accommodated my dog, but my suite was not clean and there were many hidden fees.nnI was not told about the pet fee upon booking, nor that they were designated to certain suites only, but I made that work.nnMy issue was the cleanliness in the suite. One of the garbages hadn’t been replaced, and there was hair in my shower see image.nnI reported it to the front desk upon my departure, and emailed the photo upon her request, but nothing was done. Not even apologies or comforting words.nnI will not stay here again.
It was an alright stay. For a 4 star hotel, you would think that it would be a bit more modern, and have better service. Upon check in, I was greeted by a lady that was rough taking my credit card, and ID. Then wasn’t sure why my room had already paid for. Definitely not the best customer service, however a different lady upon checkout, was very lovely. The room itself is dated, I have stayed in motels that were a bit more updated. Which is disappointing to see.nI would think something that is listed as 4 stars, and overlooking the river valley would be more fresh and modern.
It was okay... and only that. Good location. The gym is filthy. Rooms were large and comfortable but the entire building is aging and needs a lot of love and cleaning. The parking is also not secure with strange people wondering around. It certainly suited it's purpose but I will not be back.
