Story

THE LOG CABIN , OFFICE, AT THE CASSIAR R.V. PARK WAS BUILT IN 1934 FROM LOGS GROWING ON THE PROPERTY AT THAT TIME. THE ROAD LEADING TO THE PARK IS NAMED AFTER THE LADY WHO FIRST SETTLED HERE DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION ,MRS. BARCALOW . MANY PEOPLE CAME TO THIS VALLEY FROM LARGER TOWNS TO PLACES LIKE THIS WHERE THEY COULD GROW GARDENS TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES DURING THOSE ROUGH TIMES. THE CABIN WAS BUILT BY ROY DOLL , TONY HOBENSHIELD , AND LORNE ELSWORTH , ALL EARLY LOCAL RESIDENTS. OVER THE YEARS THE PROPERTY CHANGED HANDS AND WAS THE HOME TO MANY FAMLIES. THE LAST PEOPLE TO OPERATE THE PROPERTY AS A DAIRY AND BEEF CATTLE FARM WERE THE APPS FAMILY FROM CHILLIWACK B.C. THEY EVENTUALLY RETIRED AND SOLD THE PROPERTY TO BILL STRANGE FROM WASHINGTON STATE AND HE TURNED THE FARM INTO THE CASSIAR R.V. PARK DURING THE LATE 1970S . THE PARK IS CURRENTLY OWNED BY MARK AND KAREN HALVORSEN , FORMER KITWANGA RESIDENTS WHO NOW RESIDE IN HINTON ALBERTA.
THE PARK IS KNOWN AS THE OASIS OF THE NORTH BECAUSE OF THE LUSH SURROUNDINGS , TREES , GRASS AND FLOWERS . THE ENTIRE PROPERTY COVERS 160 ACRES , MUCH OF IT FOREST. THERE IS A TRAIL FROM THE PARK AREA TO THE KITWANGA RIVER AND SALMON COUNTING STATION, WHERE DURING JULY , AUGUST , AND SEPTEMBER YOU CAN SEE THE SALMON MIGRATING UPSTREAM , IN LARGE NUMBERS. THERE IS ALSO A WALKING TRAIL WHICH LEADS AROUND OUR SMALL COMMUNITY AND INTIME MORE TRAILS WILL BE DEVELOPED THROGH THE WOODLANDS AROUND THE PARK.
THE PARK HAS FULL HOOK UP SITES , PULL THROUGH SITES , CAMPER SITES , AND TENTING AREAS AS WELL AS LARGE OPEN SPACES FOR RECREATION. WE OFFER HORSE SHOE PITS , CROQUET EQUIPMENT AS WELL AS A GOLF PRACTICE PITCH. PETS ARE WELCOME. WE OFFER CLEAN RESTROOMS , SHOWERS AND LAUNDRY FACILITIES.
LOCAL ARTISTS DISPLAY AND SELL THEIR PAINTINGS IN OUR OFFICE.YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY SUPRISED AT THE TALENT OUR SMALL TOWN HAS PRODUCED. WE HAVE A SELECTION OF SNACK FOOD ITEMS AND ICE CREAM BARS AS WELL AS A RATHER ANTIQUE COKE MACHINE.
YOUR ONSITE HOSTS ALINE AND FRED DOLL ARE PLEASED TO BE IN OUR SECOND YEAR OF MANAGING THE PARK FOR MARK AND KAREN . WE HOPE YOU WILL DROP IN AND ENJOY YOUR STAY . OUR SEASON IS FROM MAY TO OCTOBER . CLOSING DATE IS DEPENDANT ON WEATHER AND TRAFFIC.

This is a great RV Park! Nicole treated us like family. The space was level, in the shade, water, electricity, waste water all worked perfectly. We used the laundry and shower facilities and everything was excellent. We can't say enough about the facilities and Nicole. If you need somewhere to stay near Kitwanga, this is the place!

Great RV park. Polite service. Beautiful surroundings. Walking distance from salmon fishery where our family was able to watch them catch and study the fish and then my daughter even helped release one. We saw two eagles and a beautiful rainbow. Great wifi connection even though we were at the end of the rows. There were recreation games available and lots of space to use them. Someone has a love of flowers here because there are gardens all over and the hummingbirds fly all around the front office. My hubby had lots of fun riding his bike around the property. It was very quiet and peaceful and not packed. We had a lovely visit.
