Did an Intro to Mountaineering course with Brian and Lelsey, and will always go back to this company for instruction, guides and trips. The most knowledge and relevant staff for what you want to learn, complete safety at all times, easy to organize, so helpful and fun. Instructors go above and beyond, and create a great group dynamic. Highly recommend. Will be seeing this crew for more adventures! Thanks guys, for such a great adventure, and new skills!
I did the 7 day alpine skills course August 2022. The guides were the best, very experienced, very knowledgeable, and great teachers. My goals going in were to gain a certain level of confidence so I could push further into the mountains. I believe I achieved this and much more. The structure of the course was well thought out and presented in a way that made it very easy to digest the vast amounts of information. Brian is an excellent teacher and guide, also a super nice person. I would recommend this course and Canada West Mountain School to anyone interested in gaining the skills to be safe in the mountains.
Very thankful that I took the AST1 course before stepping into the backcountry. Our guide Brent is very knowledgeable and with a great sense of humour. We had a small group which gave instructor the chance to work with us one on one.
I recently took the Mountaineering Essentials course with Canada West Mountain School in September 2022. Brian and Leslie are consummate professionals and clearly showed their skills and expertise in the Mountaineering field. This was the first course I have taken with Canada West Mountain School, but it won't be the last! The travel to and from basecamp was technical, but exciting. Both instructors were constantly involved throughout the training, ensuring we were grasping the information and techniques. Not only were the instructors a wealth of knowledge, they were so patient and clear in explaining what we needed to accomplish. My confidence has grown greatly and I cannot wait for my next mountain adventure! I highly recommend this company and course to anyone that wants to learn the essentials, and go on a great adventure.
I completed the Complete Mountaineering 7-day course in August. I was hoping to close the gap between the skillset I had and where I wanted to go in the mountains. This course went above and beyond. I'm more than satisfied with the knowledge I took away and the new baseline skills I acquired. On top of that, it was a life-changing experience. There's nothing to compare to 7 days in the mountains. The instruction and mentoring is world class. Every component of the course has been carefully planned so that every advance in the curriculum is seamless and makes perfect sense. I had a blast with the others in the course. We continue to keep in touch and have future adventures planned. This course is incredibly valuable and highly reccomended to anyone that wants to get off the tourist trails and enjoy new experiences.
Brent and his team of instructors were incredible. The training content was well presented and easy to consume and the on-mountain day of rescue practice left me feeling far more confident to venture into the back country safely. I’ll be back for a refresher next year!
I've attended Canada West for a number of courses including Intro to Lead Climbing, Crevasse Rescue, and AST-1. Each instructor that I've had with this school was professional, attentive, and extremely knowledgable! Would highly recommend!
Brian was our mentor during the mountaineering course in summer 2022 and he has a wealth of knowledge which he happily shares with everyone. Learned lots, the course is great and is well thought of. Would highly recommend.
I just finished CWMS's AST-1 Snowshoe course. I'd spent a lot of time looking into different AST courses in the area but I am so happy I went with them. Our instructor Brent was super knowledgeable and a very enjoyable person to be around and learn from. The days were both a lot of fun and the information was presented in a way that was very easy to digest and remember. I feel like I have a fantastic foundation of avalanche safety and the course went above and beyond my expectations. I would recommend this course to anyone curious in getting into avalanche terrain.
