Durham region has a plethora of Caribbean and Hakka restaurants. I happened to be in Whitby when I came across this Guyanese restaurant. I recognize the owner who used to manage and work at a different Hakka restaurant a few years back. We ordered takeout there are lunch specials at $8.50, which includes 2 small veggie spring rolls. You can add a pop for $1, upgrade to veggie fried rice $2.50, chicken fried rice $2.75, veggie chowmein $3.00, and chicken chowmein $3.25. Option to add 1 chicken leg or 4 chicken wings or 3 chicken balls for $3.25. Extra Bbq sauce, honey garlic sauce, and sweet and sour sauce $1.25. The owner told me she's been open for 8 months now. I love supporting local businesses, especially when they work hard to provide quality food at very reasonable prices. I ordered the chili chicken on steamed rice and sweet and sour chicken. The chili chicken is deep fried and then stir-fried in their chili sauce and onions. The heat level was tolerable, and the seasoning was just right. The sweet and sour chicken also had deep fried boneless chicken thigh meat and covered in the ultra red sweet and sour sauce. I was so hungry and wasn't able to take pictures of the food. Portion wise, I would say it's fair for the price you pay. However, I would have liked just a little more chicken in each lunch special. The restaurant is fully licensed and serves beer and alcohol. The dining area has a nice warm caribbean decor. I will try to come next time and dine in because the food is more enjoyable when consumed right away. Overall, I recommend this place if you're looking for some caribbean, Hakka, and Guyanese flavors. Will try other items on the menu like the Lo-mein, Special chicken fried chicken on top chowmein, Pepper shrimp chowmein.
I order the chilli chicken with steam rice and the spicey chicken with broccoli. Both tasted delicious, well cook and prepared. Will definitely be checking out the other options on the menu in the future.
We ordered the Calypso queen fried rice. There were two strands of short black hair in it!!! Not one but two. The food itself had no flavour, we had to add so much of the soy and hot sauce for it to taste somewhat decent. The chicken on top was undercooked and pink! Also, the fried rice was supposed to have chicken in it but there was barely any. Very disappointed. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
I dined in with the family. We ordered Calypso queen fried rice, Cantonese chow mein, pepper shrimp, black bean beef, chicken wings, general tsao chicken, and mixed veggies. This is by far some of the best Guyanese Chinese food I have ever had. The whole family loved it. I have been back numerous times, and the quality has been consistent. I definitely recommend eating here.
Ordered the Caribbean Special chicken lo-mein…Chicken was good. The noodles however are very similar to Cantonese style with a lot of sauce and mixed vegetables, which isn’t what I thought I was going to get. So I called and the lady told me if I would of ordered the Special chicken chow mein I wouldn’t of got the sauce and so many vegetables, and no mention of bringing my food back to make it right. I questioned why the dishes are so different except the noodles and she said “that’s how we make it here”. Why the lo-mein and chow mein dishes, which should be the same except the noodles, is so different. You have to question the hell out of the staff to really understand what your getting. No other Caribbean style chicken with noodle dish I’ve got anywhere looks like this. Not happy. Spent all this money for food I’m not going to eat. They should of made it right. Now I’m being accused of not knowing the difference between Cantonese and Guyanese special chicken lo-mein! Your menus says Caribbean style not Guyanese style. Lots of different ways to cook food in the Caribbean. I’ve been eating Caribbean style food for over 20 years and I’ve never been served the style I was served from your restaurant. Thanks for insulting me online. As a new restaurant you shouldn’t be belittling your customers, instead you should be trying to make your menu as transparent as possible. Perhaps spend a couple dollars on a readable menu on your website. Thanks for your response.
Came here for lunch today the service was really good and the server was very attentive as well. We got the pepper shrimp which was probably my favourite was very flavourful and cripsy also got the calypso queen spicy chicken which was also delicious as well as the fried rice. The only thing I would not get again was the lo mein was too wet and not very flavourful, but overall a really great experience and would definitely come back!!!
Best Caribbean Chinese food I’ve ever had in Canada! We had their General Tao chicken, pepper shrimp, Calypso fried rice, and Chow Mien noodles. Our favourite was the General Tao chicken! I’m from Trinidad and Tobago and this Caribbean Chinese food reminds me of home! Great food, great service.Food: 5/5
Phenomenal flavor. One of the tastiest places I've tried in Durham. I got the General Tao, Ginger Onion Shrimp and Curry Chocken Roti. Everything was absolutely delicious! We also got a free order of chicken wings . We'll definitely be back!!!
First tasted your food at a friend's home & fell in love. Yes, i went for seconds. My bf brought home for dinner today; jerk chicken fried rice and pepper shrimp. 1. The cost was reasonable considering the economy. 2. The portions exceeded my expectations. 3. Both P/shrimp + the F/rice were delicious. The jerk chicken was well seasoned and tasty. Would definitely be eating for here again. Customer for life. My suggestion Pls open a branch in Scarborough. Keep up the good customer service.
Great Service, Clean location and lots of food for the money.. Will definitely be ordering again thanks
