Calypso Hut

Went here on a Sunday around 3 pm. There were only 2 other customers. We ordered a whole fried chicken and fried rice. We got the whole chicken after about 15 min. It was over cooked and dry as if it was fried twice or fried a long time ago. We then waited an additional 25 minutes to get the rice that goes with the chicken. We tried our best not to pick at the chicken expecting the rice to arrive shortly. We asked the waitress a few times what was happening and she said it would come soon. By the time we got the rice, the chicken was cold and hard. Very poor experience especially as they were not busy. The only reason I gave this a 3 is because the rice was very tasty. I’m not sure what to say except the service needs to be a lot better. We would have preferred getting hot chicken and rice at the same time. Not sure I would dine in here again.

When we came to Canada this was the place we always ate it since the 1900s. My grandparents use to host their birthday dinner at calypso hut! All our big events we ordered trays of food. Over the years the food just kept getting worse. Why? I don’t know? Today, I was craving some and went into the restaurant. It’s empty in the restaurant as people are eating from Radica next door. I ordered two special chicken fried rice and i should have ordered one or none at all from here. The quality of food has decreased see picture. The rice is overcooked and the chicken is undercooked. One person ordered the same thing and paid $30 and I got charged extra for nothing. I don’t know where Paul is or if he reads this but wow so disappointed. I think the owner needs to check out their competition. I went into Radica and it’s like a fine dine restaurant and their chicken fried rice looks great. It Looked like how calypso hut food use to look like. Soooo disappointed in calypso hut.

1 star is a to high of a rating. Wouldn't feed this food to the dogs! Had ordered special chicken fried rice, the small tray and 2 special chicken lo mein; it was like it was old food that was reheated several times or more. Everything was dry and left overs the very next day smelled horrible. It ended up in the garbage. None of my guests ate from it again. I was embarrassed to have served that.

I don't write reviews often but I the feelings evoked by visiting Calypso Hut had compelled me to do so. I first visited back in 2019 and I must say after three years, I remember going there and the food being impeccable. With Covid, I haven't gone out in an while but I was always curious to know what happened to this restaurant. Living out in the east, it’s very rare that I make a trip out there. I decided to go back last night and when I walked in I was happy to see the wonderful man who served me last time, it was the owner . He had the same lasting impression on me once again. Jerry and his staff personalize everything and treat you like family! Eating there doesn't feel like a regular restaurant. The owner genuinely care how satisfied the customer is. The food quality is better then anywhere else I've ever been. They MAKE everything with love and they also DO everything with love. If you want to go somewhere for amazing food and a wonderful experience this is the place to be! They take pride in what they do and you can tell they're not in for the money but the impact they have on their guest. You can see if from just their interactions with their customers. Great food, Free parking and friendly staff Place looks really unique for a family restaurant. They have plenty of space to dine in patio too Great Dj not sure it was temporary or permanent Felt i like i went a club with great customer service. Lol I think we were greeted by the owner or a manager. He was super friendly, really nice guy I tried Lo Mein chicken, combo fried rice & Chow Mein chicken and 1/2 BBQ duck Great delicious food Will definitely visit again

Order in Uber eats. Chicken wings, mixture of sauces of your choice. The came unmixed. Tasted good. The crisp on these wings 5/5 Sweet n sour chicken. I personally found too saucy, 3/5 Chowmein with BBQ chicken on top. Chowmein was ok....3/5 BBQ chicken a little more salt wouldn't hurt, wasn't dry. 4/5 I would try other dishes from here.

Highly reviewed by a friend of mine but when I went it was terrible. Long waits to order and for food to arrive and when the food came it was dry and small portions of meat for the prices.Food: 1/5

Love love love! Amazing patio with a very chill laid back ambiance. I absolutely LOVE their wings and their spicy bangamary. The food is excellent and the service is exceptional. Thanks Jerry and team for always delivering excellence! Great food and drinks!

I must say I was very disappointed with the service and food. I had a large order. When I got home I found a shrimp in my sweet and sour chicken and the chicken tasted like fish. I clearly told the lady I had a shrimp allergy. Thank goodness I only had a mild reaction, because it could have been a lot worst. You all lost a customer.

I ordered through skip the dishes. What a mistake to order on a Friday night! I've ordered before during the week during the day and the food was fine. But Friday night the order was completely wrong. They didn't give me the pcs of chicken that normally comes on top the special chicken fried rice, the veggies fried rice had about 5 carrots and 3 pcs of cabbage. No veggies at all! Both fried rice dishes was burnt friend rice and the BBQ chicken was under cooked and soggy. Gummy and gross. I can see the blood still in the chicken. I called them 3 times and spoke to someone who after explaining rhe situation to hung up the phone on me. Then I called and got through to ask to for a manager and she told me that couldn't talk to the manager because she was busy being the Dj!!! I'm sorry, but what kind of business is this? I paid already so it doesn't matter? Got my money so who cares? Bad business and pathetic customer service. Not to mention improper food service. Totally disappointed and honestly feel robbed.
