Café Sabor is a great option for Mexican in Idaho Falls. The service is up to standard and the food it tasty and sometimes slow. I love their street tacos. Don’t get full on chips and salsa while you wait!
Update: The owner of Cafe Savor reached out to me to relay that I was mistakenly charged the $9.00 “packaging fee” and the correct charge was supposed to be approximately 30 cents or less. The owner kindly refunded the fee and made the situation right. The owner relayed that a sign explaining the new packaging fee in more detail is posted in their restaurant. I have been a long-time customer of Cafe Sabor and have always enjoyed their food. I ordered their well-known burrito special to-go, and when I went to pay, I was unpleasantly surprised to discover that I was charged an $8.60 "packing fee." This fee was never brought to my attention when I called to order. I asked for clarification, and the waitress told me it was the fee charged for packaging up my meal, but I feel this price is inflated when you consider it is more than the actual burrito meal. I understand that prices are rising with inflation, but I still feel like this is a little much. I am very disappointed that this occurred, and had I known the outrageous fee, I would have dined in for my meal. Heed my warning, if you decide to take your burrito special to-to, be prepared to pay more than double the price.
We dined in on a weekend. There wasn’t much of a wait. However, once we were seated, no one came by our table for about 12 minutes. Not even to ask us what we want to drink. Even when someone came by, it was the one of the greeters, asking if we have been attended to yet. Our actual waitress came by afterwards, but seemed a little zoned out. The only thing she actually did was bring us the receipt and take it. She may’ve been having a bad day, which I get it. But she definitely didn’t want to be there. The food was brought out by another person. We got the pollo Durango and shrimp enchiladas. The pollo Durango was amazing and very flavorful, hints of lime and the sauce was very tasty. The shrimp enchiladas were pitiful. There was maybe two and half shrimps in each enchilada and the tortilla shell was not hot. I imagine they just placed the shrimp and tomato mixture on a fresh out of the fridge tortilla, rolled it, and placed it on the plate. Not warm or hot, but cool to room temperature. Strange. There wasn’t much enchilada sauce either. It wasn’t what I imagined the shrimp enchiladas would be like, I don’t recommend them at all. We also got the free spinach and cheese dip, it’s not my thing but it was pleasant. The complementary chips and salsa was okay. I really like the chips, the salsa wasn’t my favorite. Overall, I probably wouldn’t come back, but my wife liked it so we will make a return trip. I’ll have to pick something better that next time.
There chips and salsa is the very best. I had shrimp fajita very good. The place is all decorated for Halloween. Great food good service.
Food was really bland. The chips had no salt, salsa was oddly sweet... I got the enchiladas with sweet pork and my fiance said they were wet and dry at the same time. His burrito was about the same. No flavor whatsoever. Even the beans were basic at best. I've been to much better places in Idaho falls, places that are not nearly as commercialized as this place. I'll give them this: the server was nice. I will not come here again, sadly.
I attended my company Christmas party this last Thursday 16 attendees, a decently sized party was busy serving not only our large party, but also at least 4 other tables. She was BUSY doing her best . That being said, she forgot at least 2 drinks for our party, and 1 dish as well. Let me be clear here, I don't think she's the one to blame, I blame restaurant management for lack of staffing 20%, and my companies management for waiting till the last minute to book a large reservation 80%.
If you’re on the fence between cafe Sabor and literally anything else I’d choose anything else. ESPECIALLY for these prices! I understand inflation but almost $7 for a SINGLE TACO. It was so flimsy I couldn’t believe it. I actually called to make sure it wasn’t a mistake, LOL Not to mention, I paid $18 for Pollo La Crème and got maybe 1 chicken thighs worth of meat and had to pull out what looked like a buckets worth of onion/ bell peppers. This is my first and last time ordering from here. :/
The food was good, not exceptional but the service was absolutely terrible. I understand places are short staffed but multiple times out waitress walked by our table without a word. It wasn't real busy and we waited over an hour for our meal, went to the hostess to ask for drinks and finally grabbed another waiter and asked for our check. I'm not sure what was happening but the service was some of the worst I've ever had.
Was told for the last 10 years Cafe Sabor was the best Mexican Restaurant in Idaho Falls and boy did I get the worst service of my life for a first experience. Got seated, order drinks and an appetizer fast no problem. THEN it took about 30 minutes for my food to get out to me and it was ice cold. I get sometimes it's a freak accident but the people next to us came in 5-10 mins after us and got there food and boxes before we even got our main food. This was a joke and such a disappointment as a top tier food connoisseur I'll never come back.
All I wanted to do was treat my wife to a nice dinner. She wanted to try this place.. So let's go. But the service was bad from the moment we walked in. And it got worse, not better. We get our chips and salsa 5 minutes before we got some water. I had to ask the host for water. The waitress finally grabs the water from the host, drops off our water and asks us if we're ready to order. No welcome to Cafe Sabor, my name is blah blah blah, just a "are you ready to order"? My wife asks for a drink menu. She brings us a drink menu, then asks us if we're ready to order. No we aren't. We told her to give us a minute to get our drink order 1st. She comes back, takes our drink order, then asks if we're ready to order again. NO I'M NOT READY TO ORDER YET!!! Another couple comes in, gets seated, and to my surprise she greats that table with a "are you ready to order"? Well at least it isn't just me, she's rude to everybody. There was 4 tables in the restaurant, and it took almost 20 minutes to get my drink order. Our drinks came out one minute before the entrees, and she almost spilled my drink on me. I ask for napkins to clean up my drink, and the waitress comes back with sour cream for my wife, but no napkins to clean up the mess she made from spilling my drink on the table. I only left a tip, because my wife made me after she seen I left a $0.00 tip. You could not pay me $100 to give Cafe Sabor another chance. We should've left once I noticed I didn't get our margaritas within 15 minutes. Or after the 2nd "are you ready to order yet"? But if you love horrible service, go to Cafe Sabor! By the way, I gave them one star too many.
