Best alternative shop around Toronto! Staff are always fun to talk to. It’s a little on the pricier side but considering the cost of shipping, duties, and exchange rate I think they have a fair price point for a local shop. Always an amazing collection. For people complaining about price, please consider the hidden fees they have to pay. Not to mention you’re also paying in part for the convenience of getting something instant vs ordering and having to deal with the mess of the postal system.
If I'm being honest.. I really don't like this place. The second you walk in the worker is just kind of staring at you, and sorta follows you around the store almost to make sure you're not stealing? They didn't seem very happy to be there at all. The prices however... ahaha the prices. A plush that would be $30 normally, is $80 at this place. Please tell me how that's justified. For small things, it's understandable, but for things like shoes or pants, it's really not worth even entering the store. You don't have to be rich to be alternative. -A punk
The pieces are amazing and one of a kind but are very overpriced. You can find them cheaper online. Regardless, it’s still a unique Toronto location.
AVOID THIS STORE! I agree with the other review who said “they are exploiting the exact culture they are marketing too”. I read other reviews of steep prices but I decided to see it for myself. You could not even find a product there for under 150$, even the tiniest skirt. The worker had a bad attitude when we said we could find it cheaper online!! LOL sorry lady it’s true. It’s very sad that this store tries to scam its customers by chargering well over $100 of retail prices at other stores.
Extremely overpriced, the markup is absolutely crazy. You can get stuff for 100 cheaper from the official website of the brand ex. killstar. demonica boots are so much cheaper on shoefreaks, with free shipping. please do not support this business, i wouldnt normally say stuff like this for smalk businesses but this is a scam
Zero stars if I could. SO overpriced, you can get everything through the brand websites less than half the price they sell it for here. Demonias here are 400+. The exact same Demonias from the website, 200. I know this place is the last standing goth shop in the city, but it does not deserve the credit it gets. exploitative and gross.
I've been going here for almost 20 years and I love this place. I really enjoy talking to the woman who runs/owns the store about "the good ol' days" aka. the 2000s. Please don't let the negative reviews detour you from visiting this store. When I first started shopping here in the mid 2000's there were so many other goth/alternative stores in the area, I can name four of them off the top of my head. But as the goth clubs started shutting down in the late 2000s/early 2010s so did the shops. Sadly none of the other stores survived the rent increases in the neighbourhood but I'm greatful that Boarderline is still standing. People here are criticizing the store for high prices but that's literally the only way they manage to keep their doors open. If you've never visited this place I highly recommend that you do, it's worth it to just go in for the unique atmosphere.
A bit pricy but the clothes are legit and high quality. Some products directly imported from Japan ^_^ The best place for authentic alternative fashion.
Very over priced, walking in you feel very uncomfortable and watched the markup is insane. Not worth it for the brands very disappointing considering we don’t have very many alternative stores here.
Exploitative to the very culture they're marketing to. For background, my friends and I had visited Borderline plus in 2019 and decided to try our luck the second time hoping it wouldn't be as bad as we remembered. All of us are very integrated in buying alternative fashion and follow most of the brands sold at the store, so of course we were quick to notice the steep price hike on every item in the store, most the prices raised $100 or more than can be bought online directly from the brands. It's one thing to say shipping/customs/items being limited contribute to their value increasing, but 99% of the items in store can be easily searched up and bought at original price or from trusted resellers, most of the time with shipping more reasonable than you'd expect. I would've forgiven this and just moved on without buying anything from the store if not for the unprofessional way staff acted, the first time shopping it was clear we were being watched like hawks and the staff noticed we were shocked by the prices. They began talking rudely about us while we were in the room about how we weren't educated on the fashion and how expensive it can be. It's clear from the attitude of staff, strict rules on no pictures of anything, and way we were rushed to try on something and check out, that they don't want you to make educated decisions and would rather make money off of naive customers looking to get into alternative fashion for the first time and don't know much of what they're getting into.
