I'm going to agree with some of the reviews that you're overpaying for the Asian food you're getting ie. For less, you can get better food in authentic Asian restaurants. However, you're paying for ambiance. Nice setting and decor. I feel the bar missed an opportunity for cool lighting and mirrors. The server was extremely nice. We even had an incident where we asked for a sushi order to not have spice she confirmed it was possible, but it came with a little spice. She happily took it back and brought us another order without any issue. The one dish we found to be really tasty was the curry duck slider. Overall, glad to see Port Credit continue to bring new restaurant experiences.
Food is very tasty. I give 100/100. You can tell the owners give lots of thought to this restaurant. It is a nicely designed and branded restaurant, every dish is an excellent example of Asian fusion. E.g. the house tartar uses fried lotus root. The interior design and renovation is also nice, everything is green coloured. Chill vibe, pretty patio. The waitress are professional and sweet. Nice experience overall.
The service was fantastic for sure. The drinks menu was good as well. All I'm going to say is that you can get Japanese, Korean, and Chinese food that is far better and 70% cheaper than what is served here. Not worth the money.
I've walked past Bonsai a couple of times and noticed the nice patio ambience and of course the food aroma. I decided to finally give it a try and it was an amazing experience. Thanks to Alexie for being such a great host. She was very friendly and attentive. She suggested the Seafood Udon and Kimchi fried rice and both meals were great. The mocktail of the day left me wanting more and more... and I'm definitely going back..
For best value, this is a great place to go with a group to split a few tapas and mains. Overall the food & presentation was good, but Bonsai is especially great for its dining aesthetics - I really like the deep green, black, gold and white theme they have going on. Seating is also super comfy with velvet-like chairs and benches. The patio is nicely done, but it is on a busy road, so I prefer inside. Staff is very friendly, and the menu is extensive enough for everyone to find something they'd like to try. I shared the baked miso eggplant and Kamikaze platter - which came with soft shell crab, bone marrow, lotus chips, shishito peppers, edamame, California Maki sushi and spicy Salmon Maki. Everything was good, but the peppers had zero heat. I also wasn't blown away by the sushi, they were more or less standard for me, which isn't a bad thing. If I ever return, would I get the kamikaze platter again? Personally no, while it was a great way to sample many of their popular tapas, I'd rather try other menu options next time. As for drinks, sake is served chilled in a cold bath - the Hakushika Kaden Chokara was quite good. They also have a cute tropical leaf backdrop by the bar, which is great for photos; and a DJ comes in on Saturday nights after 9pm not sure about the rest of the week.
I’d give more stars if I could! We wanted Asian food and found Bonsai in the heart of port credit. The place is an upscale Asian restaurant with a nice mix of tropical and classic black, the seating comfortable. The food was amazing, we both had Kimchi Fries Rice with shrimp and steak in a Gachujong sauce. The spice is typical, but my friend thought she’d be fine. After a bit of situation, she cooled down with the matcha Tiramisu dessert. The chief and employees were so kind and understanding that they already knew what to do without us having to ask; my friend received a new dish with no Gachujong sauce. The entrées are around $20-$50 per person and I can’t recommend their vast sake selection enough! Amazing job!
This was an amazing food experience! We loved trying their range of dishes. All aspects of the menu were unique and clearly very carefully selected. Would highly recommend.
DE-LI-CIOUS is an understatement. The service was great. Sorry I forgot to ask the waiter's name but he was very good and attentive. We had the Soft Crab; first time having crab that way. YUMMAY. Second was the Korean BBQ ribs; I just can't even... I have no words. Cooked to near perfection, juicy, flavorful. It did not disappoint. And then the Kimchi friend rice: shut the front door. I had to ask if the chef was single because oh my... whoever they are, they are amazing and clearly cared about the food & service they are putting out. Although it's not a place I could afford to frequent on a regular basis, I will definitely be returning and is well worth the splurge. If the service and food that I got is a regular occurrence, I have no problems paying them what they are worth. They are worth it. Also, even the leftovers taste amazing.
My first experience at Bonsai it was quite lovely. Try the plum sake it was fantastic and with just a hint of sweetness. We tried several appetizers. Highly recommend the crab and the tartare. The service was attentive and timely. she was also quite knowledgable on the whole menu food and drink and was able to provide several recommendations for us first timers at the place. Definitely a great new location in Port credit.
Great food and atmosphere. Service was great. Melissa was amazing and tended everyone around us. There’s a different menus every week the chef puts out.
