Sail Away from the Routine at our Beach Cottage Eatery !
Step through the doors at Blue Sky Foods and leave your cares behind ...
you are on our own little "island"! We offer the unexpected in rural northwest Connecticut --- a beach-style casual restaurant miles from the shore.
We're a bit of Key West with a sprinkle of Nantucket, a dash of "N'Awlins"
and the spice of the islands thrown in for good measure.
Dine with us in our indoor seating area or seasonally on our enclosed patio.
Picnic tables out back for al fresco dining. Always B.Y.O.B. Bring your own beer, wine, or rum or tequila to spice up our tropical fruit smoothies. Or grab a soda, juice, water, Pellegrino™ or Snapple™ from our cooler. Just order at our counter so you can check out the daily special boards -our staff will deliver to your table or wrap your order for the road.
BIO:
With over 60 combined years of hospitality experience, Michael and Deb,
along with their staff, have been serving you since 1994 in their funky, little beach cottage. We feature casual coastal cuisine (aka "beach food") in a unique atmosphere. One newspaper described our restaurant as
"an immediate sense of planned chaos with a slightly irreverent approach to food"- a classic menu always with a twist !
Check out our eclectic interiors filled with tacky touristy things and "ceiling art" - business cards from customers around the world...just drop your card in the beach bucket to be added to our collection. A wall in our foyer is dedicated to international sunsets and blue skies -send us a postcard from your travels and we'll add it to ours.
We also feature revolving crafts and artwork including beach gem jewelry by West Hill Studio, tropical watercolors and cards by the Painted Path and
the "How-to-Live" series of cards, magnets, posters from Sandy Gingras.
Also a box collection of chocolate dipped coconut patties... great hostess gifts!
FARMINGTON RIVER VALLEY LOCATION:
We're located by the Farmington River with its tubing, kayaking, canoeing
and world-class fly-fishing. WADERS WELCOME ! Discounts available to card-holding members of the FRAA and FRWA.

2. Is your menu just seafood?
No...our menu is quite diverse and with the ever-changing seafood market, we are always looking for great additions to our menu that mesh with our beach theme. A little trip to San Diego and we find fish tacos and Calif-style burritos...a trip to Barbados and we discover Macaroni Pie - a version of mac'n'cheese. Let us know if you have any suggestions - and as Deb is allergic to shellfish, she is always looking for a non-seafood special !
3. Do you have belly clams?
We check with our seafood vendors daily and will carry belly clams (and/or oysters!) if they are available and market prices are right. The seafood market is a difficult market made even crazier due to the Gulf oil spill and the weather. We do our best to carry our signature fried seafood because it is so popular but please trust us. We have built our reputation since 1994 on consistently fabulous seafood at fair prices and will continue to do so - we welcome any chance to save you an expensive drive to the shore.
Please give us a call if that is your only menu choice.
4. Is your menu just fried food?
Yet another misconception (along with our spending the winter sailing the Caribbean with Jimmy Buffett!) Although we are known for our fried seafood, we have many other items from grilled fish dishes to a deli case full of seasonal salads. Portobello mushroom sandwiches, Jamaican jerk chicken, top-rated burgers and honey-lime chicken to just name a few.
