This restaurant and hotel is located right on Water street in downtown St. John's. I did not stay in the hotel but rather ate in the restaurant downstairs.nnMy friend, who is a Newfoundlander, recommended this place as a lunch spot.nnThe restaurant is super cool with thoughtful decor and both indoor and outdoor seating. They have an extensive menu with both seafood and non seafood options.nnThe reason for such a low rating is that the service was horrible during our visit. When we checked in with the host we opted for indoor seating as the outside was full. She said when an outside table opened she would move us. We were given water and placed our food order. After 45 minutes of chatting and waiting I finally went to inquire about our order because it felt as though we were forgotten about. Once I was able to corral one of the multiple staff members I was told they were busy and they would get to us. They were rude and abrupt in their response. I told them that it would have been considerate to provide and update and perhaps refill our waters but they still were stand offish.nnAnyway the order came shortly thereafter and I must say; the truffle fries were the best I'd ever had. The sandwich I ordered was also fabulous.nnImprovement on service is needed.
Very nice restaurant, one of the best in the area. The service was amazing. Lily W was our waiter, give her a raise.nnA littly pricey but totally worth it. We ate very late abd were not rushed. Food was impeccable.
The hotel is perfectly located on Water Street, close to everything. Our room looked out onto the street which appears to be a pedestrian area - at least for while we were there.nThe room was large and bathroom amazing!nThe streetside restaurant was very popular you need to make dinner reservations. We had breakfast on the day we headed out of St Johns and it was really nice fishcakes.
My partner and I had a nice dinner here for her birthday. The food and service were some of the best we have experienced in the city - especially in the heart of downtown where there is so much choice.nnOur server was very quick to check in with us and offer some great recommendations. There weren't many vegetarian options, but thankfully the staff were more than happy to accommodate. The mushroom arancini, tacos, and fries were excellent. My partner had a steak chef's cut with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes - everything was packed with flavor and very well balanced in terms of seasoning and portion size.nnWe were also sat in a corner of the restaurant that offered a more intimate setting while you could still feel the bustle of the restaurant. It was very nice and recommended for anyone who prefers that type of setting. The music and chatter never drowned out our conversation whatsoever either. The handful of times I have been here have always proved that the food is spectacular, but the seats were more uncomfortable from what I previously recall. People likely spend a couple hours on average dining here, and after roughly an hour, sitting was slightly more uncomfortable than most restaurants I've been to. I can't say for sure what a booth would have been like for comfort, but the benches and chairs even though upholstered didn't add to the enjoyment of our experience.nnWhile you shouldn't be disappointed with their breakfast or dinner menu, the dessert menu is quite limited. My partner and I love a good sweet treat to top off a meal, and the two options they had weren't really options we wanted to try. Personally speaking, if they had maybe one or two more options like a creme brulee, torte, or pie, this would be a very hard restaurant to beat from start to finish.nnHaving said that and as mentioned before, the service was amazing, the food was beyond delicious, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. These are all very good reasons to check this place out. The professionalism and friendliness of the staff in combination with the quality, care, and confidence placed into the menu really makes this a must visit for brunch or dinner!
Great patio, great service, fresh food, super flavourful and well balanced. I had the lobster sandwich special with the Sage cocktail- so yummy!!!! My husband had their burger and onion rings- blew his mind with the chili/ and spicy aioli it was served with. Seriously great visit, thanks Blue on Water!
