The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - St. John's

Came in for an anniversary night with my wife.nAmbience inside was nice. Service was really fast and attentive. Our calamari starter was good but seemed a bit undercooked. Medium rare steak with twice baked potato were both cooked great.

The Keg at South Pointe was the perfect setting to celebrate our Grandson's 20th birthday with his siblings. Frank was our waiter and was very attentive, responsive to our wishes, yet let us alone to chat. The onion soup was excellent! The perfect amount of onions, cheese and croutons and not too salty. Onion rings very tasty and crispy as were the calamari - and a good amount to share. Hubby enjoyed the prime rib and the birthday boy inhaled his filet mignon cooked perfectly! with melted blue cheese. The other two had burgers, just with cheese fussy eaters and enjoyed them. I loved the cheese cake with a raspberry puree quite tarte complemented with the sweetness of the cheesecake. The birthday boy enjoyed his creme brulee, cooked perfectly. An excellent evening with good food!

If it wasn’t for the great service I received this would’ve been a 1 star review.nnHave been craving lobster rolls all week and decided to go to the keg instead of my usual spot because of lobster summer. Didn’t realize how disappointed I was going to be despite reading a couple bad reviews on Facebook as well.nnLobster roll - super tiny portion. It was probably like not even 4 inches long. 2x the length of my finger and my finger is probably barely an inch and a half long it might not even be. I’ve got small hands. 9 year olds have bigger hands than me. It was also burnt and super hard on the bread like I hit the bread on the plate multiple times and it sounds like a rock and barely any meat on the roll despite the $33 price tag. The fries was delicious and the salad was super fresh, but the star of the show was such a let down.nnTold my server about it and got a comped dessert, which unfortunately also came out overcooked : as someone who’s been making Creme brulees since I was 8 years old, I know it’s hard when you first learn how to perfect it but at this level your eggs shouldn’t be overcooked like this and have this grainy looking texture rather than creamy.nnThe escargot and complimentary bread were delicious as always, but the parts I was excited about lobster roll and Creme brûlée were such a let down.nnManager was super great though and so was my server, so I left a $20 tip on my $20 after all the comps bill which I told the server to hopefully keep for himself/manager rather than tip out to the kitchen because this was honestly quite sad.nnOverall, great service, kitchen needs work.nnWas celebrating finally being out of a cast for my ankle today too :

I pre-ordered a steak dinner for 5:00 PM and arrived at 5:45 PM. Even with the extra time, my order was not ready. I had to ask twice for an update, as the staff who checked on it returned without acknowledging me or providing any information.nnWhen I finally received the food, it came in a ripped bag with no utensils — even though I had specifically requested.nnI usually enjoy The Keg and know they’re capable of better service, which is why this experience stood out. Respect for a customer’s time, clear communication, and attention to detail matter.
