Been going there for a year or so now and I love it. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and approachable, the equipment is decent and varied, and even when it's busy I'm still able to do the stuff I want to do. The martial arts classes are great too. The amenities could use some work and I find it so odd there isn't a water fountain, but I just use the sinks to fill my bottle. Have made some cool friends and have hit some big PRs here.
Been so busy only went in few times, but i've been paying for few months. Wanted to cancel and rejoin after I have more time. Can't even cancel on the phone or online, need to come in person to sign some cancelation contract and pay extra fees just to cancel. Should not prioritize short term profit over potential long term customers. Good luck
Since it is very close to my house, I was their member for about 1 year. But they didn't care about the increasing number of members from month to month and finally I couldn't stand the bad smell inside and asked them to cancel my membership. And as they did to my girlfriend, I specifically asked them not to charge me even though I canceled my membership. I see now that they don't know what to do when it comes to money because they kept charging me. I guess that's normal for them, they just keep charging people and expecting people not to notice.
The number of people who smell and do not shower has exploded. The staff doesn't care that people chill on the bench racks and chat for hours. This used to be a "get in, get out" gym. Now it's a lounge of gross dudes who have no gym etiquette.
If you are not into big chain gyms, this is the place for you. Highly recommend the classes upstairs, there is a variety for every taste and the instructors are all very knowledgeable! Not to mention the friendly staff. Some areas could use extra cleaning, bit that’s the only downside. Pricing is super fair too, they charge more for private classes but that’s understandable.
Once you buy a membership with them, they will not allow you to cancel it online and they will "pause your membership" but continue to charge you 5 dollars per month until you come to the gym and cancel it. But the catch is that they will restart charging the full price you after a while without even sending you an email. For me, this is a type of scam.
They doubled the cost of my membership after being a customer for many years. Now I would understand if the purpose is to invest on the gym in some way but instead now they expect you to bring your own water because they got rid of the water fountain and have no plans to bring one. First time I've been to a gym where there's not a water fountain to fill ur bottle. Instead they sell you the water now. Their accessories are a hazard, I had a one of the handles snap broken while working out thankfully no injury. Yet still today there are similar handles that look like it's a matter of time before they snap and they won't replace it for new ones. These things cost $25. It's hard to say if they're not purposefully trying to go out of business. Even tho im an old time customer, I just can't recommend this place anymore.
I have not been to this gym in 2 years since covid and they randomly started charging my credit card that showed up, not as Bloor st fitness as it did in the past, but as another transaction showing up as "none" making it nearly impossible to sort out who was charging me. When I called to get money back they simply told me they had absolutely and no idea or ability to fix this problem and I should report the transaction as fraud in order to get money back. Edit: in response to the owner the gym was closed for 2 years. I moved and the charges that came up were not even under the business name making it nearly impossible to track. When I called your gym the staff did not even know how to handle the situation and it was at their request I report the transactions as fraud. Completely unacceptable from a business and you would think after 2 years you would realize how ridiculous it is to start charging people without 1st reaching out, especially when the charge does not even show up as your business.
Bloor Street Fitness is the best gym I have ever been a member of. The staff is very friendly and encouraging no matter what your fitness level is. I also find the trainers are willing to help you if you’re unsure of how to do something or have a question about anything fitness related. I was worried about hurting myself with my form once and Ian really helped me make sure I was doing things properly to avoid hurting myself. They seem to take safety very seriously and want to make sure everyone is okay and having a good experience. I recently hurt my knee working out and they were very helpful and made sure I was okay which I greatly appreciated. The gym also has a lot of different equipment, as well as one of the few gyms I have seen with a trap bar and many benches so you’re often not waiting for one to open up. I really like the atmosphere of this gym and I don’t feel inferior when I am here. They really try to promote an atmosphere of inclusion and positivity. As a trans identifying person, I feel safe here I left my previous gym due to safety issues and I feel the staff would have my back if anything were to come up which it hasn’t. The monthly rate is also very fair and I appreciate the 24 hour availability. I am really happy it is so close to me and I hope to be a member for a long time. Thanks for the great experience!
I had the same experience as Elizabeth below, but it was even worse. I asked to speak to the owner, and it was simply put "the owner is not interested in speaking with anyone about this" In 2015 I signed up with the $20 membership for life deal, which was not honored and changed in October 2020 without notice and my confirmation. more than double in price $44.07 I am a long time resident of Roncesvalles and also local business owner, I'm extremely disappointed in this experience and behavior. I will never go back to Bloor Street Fitness, and will never recommend anyone go there. Apparently the "notice" was sent in one of the emails in the attached image. I've searched for it, and can't find it.
