I recently visited Bistro on Notre Dame and it was an amazing experience. This is the best place to try real Canadian dishes with quality ingredients that are all local from Manitoba. The fresh and locally sourced ingredients add to the quality of the dishes served. You can tell that the restaurant has a focus on being social and environmentally conscious since they actually know where everything comes from. They strongly support the local food producers and use sustainable materials and methods of production to enhance the experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, with rustic decor that gave off a cozy and relaxing vibe. I had the opportunity to meet the owner and manager and they were very friendly and provided excellent recommendations, which made the experience even better. The smoked mushrooms and olives were an excellent choice for starters, and the main course was great as well. The Salisbury Steak with elk and bison and Fesenjan with Montreal smoked duck breast were our selections, both were delicious and very tasty. For dessert, the Cotton Cake was really fresh as it has mint, and the tea was a great pairing that was a perfect ending to a great meal. My experience at Bistro on Notre Dame was exceptional, and I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal experience. The use of fresh and locally sourced ingredients, social and environmental responsibility, a welcoming atmosphere, and fantastic staff make this restaurant a must-visit in the city.
The experience, hospitality and atmosphere really had my girlfriend and I really feeling at home. We ordered the poutine, lake + steak and chess pie. The hearty potatoes and smokiness from the poutine was definitely a nice change in taste. The flavours from the lake + steak came together very well, and the fresh pie was a great way to round everything off. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to all. It’s refreshing to hear the thoughtfulness of using quality local ingredients.
Ample street parking when we went. It's a quiet relaxed Bistro. Super friendly staff. The food was excellent 5++/5 We had the grilled carrots. They were very different then what I've tried before. They were not overly sweet, not mushy and served with some wonderful sauces/purees. It's a wonderful dish that should be tried out. We then had the MB biscuits and gravy. I was a little worried that they would be like southern biscuits and gravy - flabby white gravy on cornbread. This was not the case. MB Biscuits and gravy 5+/5 Despite this dish having bacon and chorizo and gravy the dish was not greasy and flabby. Instead it was delicious meaty bits with lots of flavour in a deep rich brown gravy served on slices on bannock. So I really liked it and my fears of southern biscuits and gravy were unfounded. So go try them out it's a cool little restaurant with friendly staff.
What a gem this place is! Came here twice in the 48 hours that I was in Winnipeg. Loved every single dish, but especially crochue monsieur and the chess pie. Also, anything with their own honey involved is definitely worth a try. And of course, those bread and butter pickles are to die for for all those pickle lovers : Awesome drinks and some really nice Canadian wines. I wish I tried the MB one, so will have to be back at least one more time!
First time trying this bistro in the Westend. Street parking at this place. Close to HSC- would be a nice place to have lunch. We had glazed carrots as an appetizer to share - very nice combination of ingredients in this dish. On a bed of chickpea puree - grilled carrots in syrop with 2 jams to accent the flavour - cranberry ginger jam and jalapeno apple jam. We really enjoyed this dish. We both ordered the Manitoba biscuits and gravy - very nice bison, bacon and pork chorizo in gravy - with onions on Bannock. Loved the flavours. This restaurant has quite a few tables, a patio outback for the summer months and nice decor. The staff were attentive. Locally sourced ingredients- this includes all the drinks as well - there are plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on the menu. Tried the blood orange fizzy drink which was nice. We will definitely go again. Thanks for a great meal!
When you're just walking down the street and come across a magical portal... Had lunch at a delightful surprise called Bistro on Notre Dame. First impression is always the greeting and initial service. I was led through the offerings by an informative staff who obviously knew the items would sell themselves. A great cocktail to start then the fantastic summer soup. Perfect for the weather, rich and creamy. Followed by a bison sandwich that might as well been called pulled bison. Tender and well complimented with fresh veggies. The wine was the only thing moderately normal, but it was local so a worthwhile trade off. Service was attentive but not overwhelming, I found me upselling myself on the suggestions made. Chic decor, everyday pricing and well worth a visit and repeat business. Local and sustainability only add to the overwhelming positives.
We were fortunate it was a quiet in the restaurant, cause it just finished raining. Great atmosphere, service and most delicious food. A wonderful breakfast experience.
Friendly staff, nice restaurant and fantastic hidden patio, we had the mb burger with fries and gravy, very disappointing. It was expensive, small portions and unappealing flavours.
Googled places that served breakfast in the downtown area. Bistros came up and decided to check it out. Not only was the food, service and atmosphere amazing, but the quality/price of the food was good. It's such a hidden gem ! I cannot wait to go back and try dinner. The patio will be awesome in summer as well !Food: 5/5
Service was great. Our server was very helpful and always made sure the water was topped up. The French onion soup was one of the best I have had. The elk burger was a little dry and needed some seasoning. Overall a good experience. Would definitely return to try other things on the menu.
