Great campsite in the trees. I stopped here overnight on a long distance cycle tour - the owner was very friendly and welcoming, sites a good size, most with tables and a fire pit. Washroom was clean, shower great. Washer and dryer available for $3 each. No check-out time, very relaxed vibe.
nice campground, lots of tree'd spots and even pull-through spots for trailers. very reasonable rates. the lady that runs the place is super friendly and helpful. we'll definitely stay there again if we're ever around!
We 3 Girls had a nice, quiet stay at Birch Island. Sure the place still needs a little maintenance, but the owners are extremely nice and helpful. Once everything will be finished it's going to be a beautiful campground. The washrooms are mostly clean and the shower is free. There is also a laundry machine available and FREE WiFi, which is great. Each site is very private because of the trees and bushes on the sides. A small store down the road can sell you almost everything you'll need.
Host was super friendly, the place looks like it could be such a nice campground, but isn't taken care of. the washrooms are in disastrous condition lots of dead earwigs in the soap dispenser - come on, it felt like being in a horror movie and a lot of rubbish around the place, for example a fridge just lying around. If everything was tidy the 25$ for a tent site would have been justified, but not like this. Please, host, make this the great place it could be!
Utter dive. Campgrounds are terribly maintained. There's rubbish all about the place, cables, left over building materials. The bathrooms are a disgrace, full of insects and cobwebs. For some reason they thought it a great idea to wedge the doors open - I mean it's not really camping if you can't use the toilet without a variety of moths, flies, beetles and spiders to share the experience with you. And those spiders were well fed. The staff were almost nowhere to be seen, the guy took my money for the campsite and laundry and said he'd be back in a few mins with detergent. Waited an hour then used my shampoo instead, never saw him again and needed to check that the water was drinkable. Some guy said he went fishing... It's not really well fenced off and opens out into the village and people drive through all the time. They said that they recently took it over and are making improvements but my feeling is that with all the unfinished building work and unkempt campsites, they're just super bloody lazy, it'll never happen and they'll go bust within a year. It has the redeeming feature of being in a relatively quite and pretty spot. It cost $25 which I think is $10 too much considering what it was like.
Manager Tammie is very helpful and has been there 3 years. Less good reviews predate her We came as a family group and found it fantastic, Nice big treed sites Great value for services. Highly recommend it!
Thank you very much for your reviews. We are under new management as of May 1, 2016. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service and have the campground clean and convenient for all our friends. These reviews are helpful and please keep posting it. We will continue to work harder to make Birch Island Campground and RV a better and beautiful place to stay. We welcome all our friends. I am confident that everyone who comes will enjoy and will have a great experience. Thank you Management
At first sight we were not sure about this place but you can't always judge a book by the cover! The washrooms are clean and shower is free. There are 3 separate men, women and family washrooms. There is laundry which is handy. The hosts of this amorous are extremely friendly and helpful. Another plus is the privacy of each site with trees on either side, and most trailer sites are pull-through. This would've a great place for a young family. There is an awesome store just down the road with almost everything you'll need.
I only spent overnight there while I was on a road trip so I can't give a very detailed review. From what I saw of the place it was in need of some maintenance. That being said the owners were extremely friendly, and accommodating. They told me they had only just bought it in May and we're planning upgrades. I could see sim improvements they had made already new playground equipment, new power and water fixtures in the site I was in. I would camp there again.
Campground is a 20 min drive away from Wells Grey Provincial Park. I was told that the campsite is now under new management. The hospitality is great and very friendly staff. The washrooms were clean and had hot water running at all times. Even though the campsite is close to Yellowhead Highway, you cannot hear any of the highway noise. I would definitely visit this site again!
