The food was amazing and delicious. I can say its close to authentic. The dining room is spacious and it wasn’t full at all. People come in for take out and you can take as many as you wanted. Also the chilli oil is top notch and you can also take as much as you wanted and besides there are other sauce option.
We went in right at 4:30 pm when the buffet started. Paid $48 for 2 dinner boxes. When I took a bite of the chicken balls it was bad. I called the restaurant and told them the chicken balls were bad and that they needed to remove them from the buffet. I was asked what do you mean by bad?. I responded with the chicken is expired out dated. I was told it would be removed, I’m sorry and thanks for letting us know. When I hung up my husband was appalled that we weren’t offered to be reimbursed, a discount or even our next visit taken care of. After this there will not be a next visit. We will be going elsewhere for Chinese food cravings. You have lost our business!
This is a very comforting place to eat Good food nice people work there. Plus the people that eat there are nice and cordial. I've been going there for over 10 years, with friends and relatives. Never have I been displeased with the entire meal or people washrooms are clean also.Food: 5/5
PRICE IS UP / QUALITY IS DOWN Once upon a time, this was a great restaurant. In the 80's, 90's and 2000's this was an unmatched place for Chinese food in the area. However, the place has really gone downhill in the last 4-5 years specifically. There must be new owners or management to have such a decline? For example, our family recently attended a buffet smorgasbord which we have many times over the years and for 6 adults and 6 youths/children aged 4-14, the meal came to just over $300!! The 10-11 year olds were charged the same price of an adult!?? The rice was mushy and salty, meat was hard & chewy...it was not good AT ALL. I would strongly advise against the Big Rock Inn, after being a happy customer for 30+ years our last few visits there were a shame.
To put it into perspective, I prefer buffet rather than ordering from a menu and hoping for the best. I have lived in Calgary for most of my 50+ years and this is a nice little place in the center of Okotoks with great food and atmosphere!Food: 4/5
Buffet was tasty and fresh we were there at 445pm it had just started waitress was very friendly and accommodating definitely will be back thank you for a great dinner
Big Rock is our go to for a solid western Chinese buffet! We've never had take out so I can't speak to that. Buffet is always hot and fresh and I love the selection of chow mein and veggie dishes available, and I'm a big fan of the won ton soup who isn't?!. During the many many years I've been going there have only been very very rare occasions that they haven't been up to their usual standards. Staff have always been friendly and attentive. We will continue making this a regular stop. Thank you Big Rock!
Friendly staff, fresh hot food, each bite was tasty! Very reasonably priced! Best Chinese food we've had in the Calgary area in a long time. We will definitely be going back.Food: 5/5
The staff was friendly, but it's really expensive for what you get. Most of the food was cold and the noodles and rice were dry. Definitely not worth the $30+ a person
We came for a second time to this place drove from Calgary to come as the first time we went the food was good and service was awesome. This time the food was cold and the meat was so dried you could not even chew it. And the server had a blue tooth in her ear wand was having a personal conversation in her language the whole time she was serving customers. We found this so very unprofessional and dismissive. We will never come back.
