Big Rock Campground

What a great place and awesome staff. Facilities are great. Hiking is awesome around this area as well. Great price for what you get. We didn't know you had to get firewood from them, but they were very nice about us making this mistake. We were easily able to get some more wood from them. I would highly recommend this place as a great camping location to just relax and enjoy your time outdoors.

We have stayed here for several weeks when you add our visits together. It is our favorite campground in the Chicago area because it is clean, well laid-out, has great paths and well-maintained grounds. The staff is always helpful and polite and had great advice about local stores and activities. Highly recommend! There are two nice dump stations and the water hook-ups for the sites are spaced a little unevenly between sites so you may need a 100' hose from some spots. The electricity is both 50 and 30 amp and reliable. There are large areas of grass in areas- big enough for a good touch-football game or thrown a frisbee. The bathrooms are pit-toilets and very nice. There are covered picnic areas, a pond, and a path that leads to a lake and around the preserve just by the sites. There is also a nice equestrian circle for horse trailers.

Peaceful, great place near to city to enjoy nature and a great jogging. The place is clean and people is friendly and helpful. Not a fan of the bathrooms because are kind of primitive style( that is why the 4 stars), but if you are traveling with an RV, you can enjoy full hook up, they also have dump station. We couldn't get to the lake because it was kind of late a nd we just went for an afternoon, but the reviews are very good. Maybe next time.

We enjoyed our stay very much. 50amp service with nice large, flat and easy to back-in sites. Water at every site is a big plus also. Quiet and clean. Very well maintained. Close to supplies also.

Clean campground geared more towards RVs than tent campers. Quiet but not much to do nearby.
