Story

Better Meals was established in 1993 by people who have an intimate understanding of the needs from seniors for well-prepared meals and a convenient delivery service. Our menus, which feature a wide variety of dishes to choose from, allow us to provide healthy and delicious meals that satisfy the specific diets of our customers.

Mission

Our organization from top to bottom believes in the vital service we are providing to seniors and the impact that is has on the community. Better Meals strives to help seniors maintain a high level of well-being by patiently listening to their dietary needs, providing a personalized menu that is both delicious and healthy, and delivering fresh meals on time.

Products

For a price as low as $6.75 a customer can enjoy a sumptuous combination of soup, entree and dessert of their choice. We have a variety of menus to order from including regular, diabetic, pureed, low sodium and a la carte. We also feature new, tasty dishes in the beginning of every season under our featured menu.

My case manager referred me here. I really quite enjoy their meals overall, definitely have some favorites and breakfast is good too. Some meals are something left to be desired. More variety instead of mashed potatoes would be nice. Service is reliable and friendly. It helps me to control my portions, diabetes, and just to eat healthier. I would definitely recommend to my friends and family. Thank you!
Better Meals have come to me when I had knee and hip replacements. I still order that I am in my 90s. Good portion of meat always, balanced with potatoes and vegetables. Friendly and efficient people.
My social worker in sooke recommended better meals! We don’t have lots of restaurants here and no delivery. It is very helpful for people who can’t make food! I can’t walk now so it is awesome that better meals deliver in front of our house. Food is very healthy! Highly recommended. And staff over the phone was very nice. Thank you!
Pretty good food. I started getting them during post-hospital recovery last year. I don't like all of the entrees but have some favourites, especially the breakfasts. You can order meals that come with a dessert and soup you choose or you can order a la carte items. I often do the latter, and these include fresh sandwiches, entrees, desserts and more. I appreciate this service for days when I don't have the energy to cook but want to eat some decent food.
Can't say I would order again. Our experience wasn't that great. It's a decent price though. Food was so so. Thought we'd try it out anyways. Food instuctions were iffy. We had to cook it way longer than instructed to as food was still frozen when done.
We live in New York and my mom in Vancouver. She is 92 and has just moved into an Independent Living complex. What a weight off my mind and shoulders to know that she is eating healthy, balanced meals that are delivered to her door. She loves the food and the variety. She prefers the food warmed in the oven rather than in the microwave but that's her personal preference. Better Meals you are doing a fantastic job.
My husband just got off the phone with the manager of Better Meals. We order food for his mom, 94 years old, with mobility issues. The first time we ordered, my husband asked that they deliver it into her home as she is unable to bend down and retrieve it. They said they would. They did not. He phoned to complain and tried a second order with clear instructions to call her first and then deliver it into her house. They said they would. No call and again delivered it onto her doorstep. My mother in law always answers her phone. My husband challenged that they even called. The manager refused to provide proof that there was a call. We will NEVER order from this company again. Thanks for nothing Sam!
For the most part the meals are quite good and delivery is good. I only gave them three stars as we are finding the consistency of the meals from order to order cannot be counted on for our last 2 orders. Turkey dinner used to be very good , now turkey is stringy, stuffing is mush, perogies were good but now filling is grainy and no matter how you reheat them the exterior is gummy and last but not least the cabbage rolls on the last order the filling was completely different than it usually is and was very dry on the inside. These were favourites of ours but now we can't order them. Hopefully this won't continue with other dinners or we will run out of things to order, perhaps they changed their chef?
I highly recommend Better Meals. The food is healthy and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Even my kids can make themselves a meal now. Most of all, everyone I've spoken to are so kind and helpful. From the lady handling the phonecalls and emails to the gentleman who delivers the food. God bless you all!
I am house bound for several weeks due to surgery. Better Meals has been working out great as I want to make sure I eat nutritiously during my recovery. Nice staff over the phone and the volunteer delivery driver is friendly. My only complaint is that the chicken dishes seem to be mainly dark meat which I don't care for but easy remedy in that I just don't order such anymore.
