Au 14 Prince Arthur Ouest

Story

Au 14 is a winning retreat for anyone looking for that satisfying south eastern meal with a homespun Plateau Mont-Royal ambience. This family-run restaurant established decades ago is a neighbourhood staple which caters to every taste; with a flare for signature dishes it is the perfect place to gratify your craving for Vietnamese. The menu boasts steaming bowls of pho that hit the spot after a long day, but don't be hesitant to try something different, their extensive list of entrees vary a pedigree of flavours, try the fresh lemon-grass or the spicy seafood curry, or the very popular beef over crispy noodles, it's very savoury, juicy and a little bit sweet. The tofu, served in soup or on a soft bed of vermicelli, is perfectly seasoned with chilli and fresh vegetables. The appetizers are addicting and you may want to try more than one. The simple desserts are the perfect size after a large dish, try the chilled lychee for something light, or the deep-fried banana with fresh local honey for something rich. When it gets cold outside there is nothing better than soaking up the heat in this peaceful corner with a bottle of hot sake. A cozy spot for lunch or dinner, monday to saturday, Au 14 will warm you up and it won't wipe out your wallet.

"We are a small family restaurant open since 1976, in downtown Montreal. We serve authentic Vietnamese soul confort food from our late grandmother's recipes. We are most popular for our fried imperial rolls, spring bols and ginger chicken caramel. Our soup is also very popular since it's made with 100% bone broth with no msg added just like how grandma used to it. Every plate we put out there is made with tender love and care. So if ever you want to eat at a place that has lots of history in every bite. We welcome you to try our restaurant."

The ladies were amazing, they were family oriented which gave an instant feeling of being home. I was recommended the bun bo hue as their most popular item. I thought it was extremely flavourful and not as heavy which is great if you’re wanting a cleaner version of generally an oilier broth that would put you in a food coma after. The fortune cookie at the end was also a treat!
I haven't tried every restaurant within walking distance from work, but I can safely say that Au 14 is going to be hard to beat. I'm no expert in Thai food, but I know delicious, and they serve it here. I tried the rice noodle salad with broth on the side, it looked exactly like the online menu pic, and tasted as good as I imagined it would. I ordered in advance so pick up was fast and easy. Came to about 17$ with tax and tip, and they threw in a little dessert and a fortune cookie. I've been to cheaper Thai places, but they weren't as good. Perfect comfort food for a dreary day.
Good spring roll and papaya salad, though the pho is disappointing. It's not a traditional pho - no option for beef brisket, tripe, etc., and the beef arrived already cooked and not rare. Am curious to try their non-pho dishes. Service was nice and attentive.
Amazing comfort Vietnamese food with many options from soup to spring bowl and rice plates. Absolutely in love with their recent additions to the menu, especially the “hu tiu kho” - super nice if you cannot decide between a soup or a mixed vermicelle bowl it is BOTH!!!. Friendly and efficient staffs!
Best mom and pop Vietnamese food! Consistently good every time! Best cha gio imperial roll in the city!Food: 5/5
Crispy chicken & rice with sides Delicious Chef's kiss. The in house chocolate mousse is pillowy, creamy and decadent fresh taste
Love this place. I usually get the duck tonkinnoise and appreciate the petite size which is only $5 because I often don't finish a whole bowl otherwise and can also have something else as well like the green papaya salad. Plus it's a cozy space!
This review is from the perspective of an American Oklahoma. I absolutely love Pho and Bun Cha Gio, so we asked which were those on the menu as we didn't see those. We were directed and ordered their Vermicelli Noodle Salad and beef Tonkinese soup along with shrimp wontons. The Tonkinese soup had all the ingredients I'm used to, with the exception of the broth. Instead of Pho broth bone/marrow based it had a different broth that was much more similar to traditional beef soup. It had a totally different taste, which wasn't altogether pleasant. The Vermicelli Salad was better, but had another sauce/flavor to it that took away the light, fresh quality of Bun Cha Gio I'm accustomed to. The wontons didn't have any cheese in them, which is what I'm used to, but despite that we're quite delicious. Overall, it's certain that my previous experiences/definitions of those dishes are shaping my opinion, but I didn't care for either of the main dishes.
Pretty basic and inauthentic Vietnamese food. Ugly interior design and week ambiance. At least it's pretty cheap.Food: 2/5
Good service as always. Food arrived faster than usual today. It's a pleasure to finally eat in the restaurant. I'm glad to recognize the usual staff too!
