Pretty awesome collectible shop in Toronto. Lots of figurines of various genre's and robot figures such as gundam and some transformers. Too pricey for me but was worth the stop in.
After reading some of the reviews I was really surprised, as I have been there a few times now and I've never really been hassled. There was one time I was kind of in an employee's way and he expressed some annoyance, but other than that nothing notable. The girl that works there seems really friendly. I know the bag rule is a little inconvenient and it was a surprise to me the first time I went, but I think it's understandable given the high price merchandise and it is cramped so aside from theft, damage from knocking things over is a fair concern.
One day you happen to come upon this shop named "AnimeXtreme." You see the reviews online but pay no mind to it and visit it anyways. You first see the door and see a sign saying "ring the doorbell if you want to enter". You then think to yourself "well that is weird". You enter the store for the first time and a weird atmosphere starts to envelop you. You get asked to leave your baggage at the front. You think to yourself "this is fine." As you start browsing, you notice that every product seems to be priced so highly as it was a family heirloom. Out of the corner of your eye, you happen to see one of the workers. You think "oh he might be just restocking", but this is not the case. It seems that every isle that you enter he seems to be there! The atmosphere has now worsened but you still persevere to find a product. As soon as you find your somewhat not that overpriced product, one of them asks you to leave. You think to yourself, "well seeing as how I am treated this way I might as well take my business elsewhere." You then leave the store with a bitter taste lingering in your mouth. You then decide to never step in this establishment ever again. 0/5 if I could.
My friends went for a shopping trip in Toronto and went to the store. They felt as if they were being watched and rushed the whole time. My friend was contacting me asking if I wanted certain items since where we live there are no anime stores and stuff is hard to come by. I asked if she could take pictures of the figures I was interested in and there is a no picture policy which is dumb. The staff were very rude to my friends and they left without buying anything. The store missed out on a possible $400 sale. The stores customer service used to be so much better, and I feel they need to fix how they treat their customers.
Upon entering with my group of four we were instructed to leave our bags on the tainted basement floor which this store resides on. We were casually gazing at the products on display in hopes to find something reasonably priced to purchase. For an amateur like me, the products on display were an experience just to look at. However, after not even 10 minutes of browsing I was singled out by the "heavy" man at the register. "Are you actually gonna buy something? Because lapping around the store isn't helping us. We want people in and out." Okay sir, sorry for taking my time in your establishment. We were not given a time limit in the store but he expected us to know this unspoken rule that customers aren't allowed to browse their inventory without knowing they would make a purchase or not. Me and our group registered the way he spoke to me and we all gathered our things to leave. We feel sorry for the employees that have to work at such an establishment that is run by a "man" with a hostile attitude for anime enthusiasts that don't have the money to cough up for their marked up merchandise. Clearly a person who wants to feel a fake sense of authority over strangers to fill whatever void occupies his soul. We were viewed as excess space, not as customers. For people who want to get into buying merchandise of their favorite series, do not settle for this as your first location of purchase. Faceless strangers online are much more accommodating than the slimy sloth that runs the register.
Marked up prices on figures, reasoning was because “its a popular character”. Unprofessional male employee. Asked if they had any copies of Vagabond and he replied with “it’s out of print”. So I replied “alright no problem”, but one quick google search shows you can still order copies of the manga and the cherry on top? They are still printing them in 2022! as late as May. So stay away from them, only reason they’re in business is the selection of the store, nothing else.
accidentally placed an order and emailed the customer support address 1 minute after in attempt to cancel/refund it. didn't get a reply. tried again next day at 1:32pm. nothing. they shipped it out at 2:04pm, I called and the staff working said there was nothing he could do and offered no alternative solution. I understand the final sale policy but the package had not even been packed when I attempted to cancel. Staff working used the excuse "sorry I just work here", I asked to speak to a manager he said "yep that's me". And basically hung up on me from there. Brutal brutal experience.
They have a huge selection of manga and figures, new and old. I mainly came here to find figures from Persona 4 arena and surprised to find it on their shevles. The price is definitely marked up so I decided to look at another store instead. I wasn't pushed to make my purchase and the male staff were not rude while I was here. I was asked to put my bag down in the front, which is understandable since bags could knock over merch since everything is compact in there.
Walked in and said wow I could spend all day here, what a cool store not 5ft into the store after being in it 5 secs. Was told "ya well that's not good for business, so hurry along". Will not be back, went to L & M down the street, highly recommend, lady was so nice!
Workers are super rude and rush you. We wait for a long time to get in, and even if you're holding merchandise to buy - they have the gall to tell you to leave because there's a lineup. Alright, lose my business AND the group I'm with. Possible $500 business and y'all rushed us to get out for two people waiting in line. What a joke of a store.
