Great customer service at this place. All of the doctors (Dr. Bloom, Dr. Malik, and others) seem very knowledgeable as to what it is they are doing. They always gives a quick over view of the procedure prior to doing it. The facility is very clean, well put together, my favorite part was the Television in the waiting room, which provides a lovely video on how certain dental procedures are carried out. This Television gave a beautiful and very professional touch to the building. As well as this the front desk is very helpful and MORE than informative, always willing to help! However one of the best parts is FREE PARKING! All I have to do is park in the Colombia Garage only a 2-3 minute walk from the office and Albany Upstate Dental with pay for my ticket! Great Job Albany Upstate Dental! Keep it going'!

I'm new to the area. I had regular checkups with my previous dentist and haven't had a filling in 5+ years. I went to Albany upstate dental for a checkup mainly because it was located near my new residence. Following my checkup, I was told that I had several cavities. I was really surprised because my previous dentist hadn't mentioned any cavities during my last checkup. The dentist at Albany upstate dental pointed out the cavities and advised I get them filled. So I scheduled an appointment for the first filling.
The dentist and assistant doing the filling seemed very rushed (my appointment was the last one before closing). The assistant also kept mentioning that she had to be out the door by XX pm to make the bus. They did a sloppy job to say the least. I have trouble flossing the tooth, and the interior side of my tooth now feels rough from the composite filling compound even though the filing was done on the top surface of my tooth.
I decided not to go back and went to another dentist in the area for the remainder of my cavities. However, the new dentist I went to recommended against getting any fillings. My new dentist explained that the cavities I had were microcavities or surface cavities. This means the tooth is at the very early stages of tooth decay, but the tooth hasn't decayed yet (only discolored). You can tell the difference between surface cavities and full blown cavities by poking the area with the pointy dental tools. Dental tools will only clank against surface cavities but they actually stick when you poke actual decay. Surface cavities only require monitoring and do not require fillings.
In short, I was not impressed by Albany upstate dental.

Dr. Malik and his professional staff are incredible. They are nice, informative, and courteous. The front desk, however, is hit or miss. We had one issue with the receptionist, but since we got the office manager involved she has been under control. But waiting for our appts, I can see she is just as rude to other people. In addition, she takes personal calls, texts, and uses speaker phone really loud to convey personal medical information to insurance companies. I really wish they would replace her with someone professional, because while the practice of the professional staff is exemplary, I just don't know if they can survive the unprofessional behavior of the support staff.

Dr. Malik is simply outstanding. I've had a root canal and crown by the Doc and it's still pretty good after like almost over 5 years. Best dentist of the capital. Great individual !!

New to the Albany area and work across the street from Albany Upstate Dental. I scheduled my appt over 3 weeks in advance. The woman on the phone took my insurance information over the phone. I also advised that I had recent full-mouth xrays emailed to me from my previous dentist. My appt was at 11am and I arrived promptly at 10:50 to fill out any new patient paperwork. Upon check-in the front desk attendant told me she didn't see me on the schedule; that I didn't have an appt. I told her that was not correct and that I called over 3 weeks ago to schedule. She said she did see my in the computer though whatever that meant. She also said she had to verify my insurance info even though I gave that to her over the phone. I heard her call into an automated system that gave her the info in less than 2 minutes. In addition I asked for their email to forward the xrays from my previous dentist. She told me that they did not have an email but I could send to her personal gmail and that I would still need xrays! These were recent and full mouth and I have moved around a lot for my job last couple years and have never encountered a dentist that would not accept recent full mouth xrays. Only thing I can think of is that they want that extra $$$$. I am not risking the additional radiation burden so they can make an extra buck. I sat there and waited until 11:45am and then let her know I was on my hour lunch break. She told me it would be another 20 minutes at least! She also gave me the alternative to see the dentist for an "exam". I told her I scheduled this cleaning over 3 weeks ago and entered it into my calendar and also came early to complete paperwork and should not be waiting this long. She said part of the hold up was she had to verify my insurance and I told her I heard her get that through an automated system in under 2 minutes all before 11am! I had to go back to work and told her to discuss my fiasco with the dentist and if I got a call from one of the dentist's apologizing for this first impression, I would gladly try again. I will update this review if I do get a call but I am not holding my breath
