Accurate's Early Years
During the Second World War, a company named Simpson Garage found their business dropping off due to the rationing of gasoline and rubber. Since many of the men were in the service and overseas, the owner started sharpening and repairing reel mowers. After the war was over, the garage business started picking up again, however they continued to service lawn equipment as a part time business.
In 1955 the Lawnmower end of the business was growing and developing an ever-increasing client base. It was decided that it could no longer be part time. A garage employee bought out the business and relocated to Sargent Avenue. At that time the newly named Accurate Lawn Mower carried Toro Power Mowers and Clemson Bros. Reel Mowers.
Accurate Lawnmower ownership had changed hands several times over the years. Finally, in 1967, Dave Neufeld bought the business and relocated it to 830 Scotland Avenue. At that time, the shop was approximately 800 square feet. It had a small show room for displaying Toro, Davis Lawnmowers and Ariens Snow Blowers. In addition to sales, Dave hired two mechanics for repair and maintenance for all makes of equipment.
In 1970 Dave moved to a 2800 square foot property on Pembina Highway with a larger show room and shop area, hiring more full time and part time employees. At this point he was able to display more product lines and started carrying MotoSki Snowmobiles.
Accurate Lawnmower incorporated in the summer of 1979. Regretfully Dave passed away later that very same year, leaving his three sons to carry on the family business. The next few years were exciting times for us. For many years in a row, we were recognized and rewarded by Toro Canada, being named Toro Dealer of the year.
More Recent History
In 1994 we changed our name to Accurate Lawn and Garden Equipment to reflect the vast range of products we now carry. In 1995 we bought the building directly behind our location; adding 5500 square feet, bringing us to over 8000 square feet. This allowed us to hire more mechanics and add to our sales team.
We are very proud to continue to offer our customers top quality products such as Toro and Ariens, products we have carried since 1955. We continue to add to our inventory of equipment, and proudly offer our customers a full line of Stihl, Troybilt, Gravely, Shindaiwa, Merrytiller, and a wide range of professional power equipment. Additionally we carry Briggs & Straton, Tecumseh and Kolher engines.
At this time we employee 12 full time and seasonal employees. Our mechanics are factory approved master technicians. Every year our technicians attend several factory training courses, helping them to keep informed of the latest technical updates and procedures. Therefore, we are confident that our clients are receiving the best possible service.
In 2005, Accurate celebrated 50 years in business, and received the prestigious "Partnership in Business" award from Stihl; the first of this honor to be awarded in Canada.
Accurate's Future Plans
Anyone who has visited us during the busy summer months knows that Accurate is in desperate need of a more spacious parking lot. Accurate's plans of relocating have been an ongoing thought since 1998 when we ran out of room in the current warehouse and workshop areas. In fear of losing customers, we plan to stay in the same vicinity.
